I was wondering what is reason behind the constant bugs and problems with fb and instagram. FB seems to get worse by the hour, css doesn't load, ads are flagged incorrectly, posts coments are duplicated, instagram reels editor keeps crashing, I could go on and on with the list of promblems. On the other hand, I have the impression that FB devs are pretty strong. So the source of problems could be the "ship as much features as fast as you can" culture that is causing all these problems. Could someone that work at meta comment the reasons behind it? TC: 165k #tech #meta
Employees are too rich to work for a living
Fact. Too busy content creating on their wealth
Shipping features as fast as you can with no regard for long term maintenance is the ideal dev action. There's zero chance of incurring tech debt by following this pattern.
It’s partially because of the former move fast mentality and probably a bit of drain from Metaverse shift. FOA was drained and not refilled of talent, then the layoffs happened to make things worse. There was a shortage of engineers before and now it’s worse.
What is FOA?

Move fast break things 🤣
Facebook’s motto has always been move fast and break things
Fair point. But things are getting out of hand lately.
FB operates around claiming performance cycle impact. Landing diffs gets you impact, and fixing stuff when it doesn’t work later also gets you impact. The more broken code you can fix, the more impacc you can claim towards your rating. When it gets fixed though is based on when it makes the most sense to do for your review.
That’s f’ed up. Lol.
