Completed my onsite at Meta this week for an E6 role. 2 coding rounds, 4 LC medium questions in total. Was able to solve 3 correctly. 2 System design rounds, 1 was good, the other was just meh. Behavioral was good. Do you think I met the bar? Do I have a chance of making it? Specifically curious if there are others who interviewed at Meta and got offers who had similar or worse performance in their interview loop compared to mine. Just trying to get a sense of what my chances are. TC: 300k YOE: 10
normally yes, but given how competitive things are now, who knows
From your experience, for someone with Ml PhD + 6.5 yoe, leading 8 ppl. (Tech lead and project lead) cross functional teams, no experience in building scalable systems design (I am in research organisation), good in communication, leadership …. Should target E6 or E5 roles? Assuming I get the E6 role (god interview performance), how is the chance to succeed? I am targeting MLE postions.
you should aim for E6. No concerns on succeeding
Curious, how do you know it was an E6 role? I thought they decide on E5/E6 after interview based on performance?
The recruiter made it clear right from the start that it was for E6.
Cool thanks. I have same YOE as you and recently accepted an offer for E5, that’s why I was curious. Embedded SWE for reality labs though so not sure if that matters.
Yes, you are fine
WTF dude! Why even think of Meta in this climate? Don’t you read the news?
I don't get Meta. Why the f** are they still interviewing? They are going to close 5k positions and only after the 2nd layoff, they will decide which positions are critical. The 2nd layoff is not done yet. In the 11/7 layoffs, 200 out of 250 bootcampers who started on Monday, were laid off on Wednesday. Several who joined a few months back weren't allowed to graduate and laid off. The poor souls sitting in bootcamp today again are shitting in their pants as they aren't allowed to graduate, like the last time. I can understand that the first time they just made a planning mistake. But again? Meta HR is such a mess. Bottom line, if you unfortunately get the offer, don't join unallocated. Good luck op.
Because this is not exact science and they like to keep their options open. With layoffs, morale deteriorates, there's additional attrition. The idea is to keep a pool of active applicants ready to fill the unexpected attrition
Yes, or let them go if not needed. Great. Some leave secure jobs which they can't go back to. Others have a visa clock ticking. But hey, why does Meta care, as long as they can find enough gullible people?
Hire congrats!!
Gap the clothing store pays 300k?
No hire. I had similar experience at the end of 2020. Wasn’t given an offer
Beware of L6 roles: especially at this time, the expectations are going to be sky high
I have an E6 signed contract, to start in a couple of months. Timing clearly couldn't be worse, but I'm committed now.. Would you mind elaborating a little on what you think expectations may now be? Would like to be prepared, at least!
So, it depends largely on the team/manager - but a E6 is expected to do a *lot* : they are responsible for laying out the technical direction of the team, mentor junior engineers, pitch in for deep technical work and handle conflicts with cross functional teams, plus a bunch more. In all, it makes sense to join an area where you are already familiar with how “things ought to be”. Sure you probably do a lot in your current position, but it really is “everything all at once”: that thing becomes more natural once you’ve been here for some time. That said, there is an expected ramp up time - but a lot depends on the current team setup. What am I basing this on? I’ve 20 years of experience (3 here at meta) and I’m a 5 -> looking to move to 6

Why would you go to meta? They’re down sizing max!
why like own post? applying to roles now is safer since they are more critical
critical role hires are safer
