Meta product design challenge

I don’t have a question.. just sharing my product design interview experience. I had the most fascinating design challenge today at Meta. The prompt was to design a web3 based social token economy. I hear people talking about designing a remote, lock or atm and how fb repeats these prompts but boy I was surprised! I really enjoyed it though. Maybe my interviewer and I even found a startup idea today 😆 AMA #design #interviews #ui/ux #meta

Thanks for sharing!! That's a wild one

As long as we are on this topic- what else have people been asked?

SAP QTsA63 OP Dec 16, 2021

I’ve heard about library book rental. My prompt for first interview 2 years back was a bill splitting app for friends

@OP I got the book rental prompt too! Interesting on the bill splitting app one because that’s what the finance team / Novi tries to do now

SAP QTsA63 OP Dec 16, 2021

Just to give some context, this prompt was because I said I’m excited about crypto and spend a lot of time in that space. (During intros on my portfolio review ) It could be different for you based on your background and interviewer

Meta NaJt40 Dec 17, 2021

Oh, that makes more sense now because majority of designers have no clue about these topics.

This right here is really good insight! Thanks so much for sharing.

Curious- when you answer, how do you approach it? Talk about ‘how’ you’d go about doing it? Or more about ‘what’ you’d do?

SAP QTsA63 OP Dec 16, 2021

It’s mostly about how we approach the problem. I followed this structure and did a lot of practice using this: - ask questions to clarify prompt - define the true goal for the project (what’s the intent for building a social token economy) - how do we measure if we’re successful - who are the primary and secondary users( shortlist 1/2) - for our users, what’s their context, needs and pain points. - based on those pain points, have a quick ideation - pick 1 idea weighing pros and cons - user flow - quick wireframe

Nice. And was this all during the interview? Or some take home? How long did you have?

Intuit 2103🖤❤️ Dec 16, 2021

Did you bring all of the info from recall? Can’t imagine the interviewer being fluent with web3

SAP QTsA63 OP Dec 16, 2021

Sorry Didn’t get you.. bring what info?

Intuit 2103🖤❤️ Dec 16, 2021

Facts, constraints, limits, direction, context, scope

Bloomberg Vetamerse Dec 17, 2021

I wonder if they’re building that themselves and stealing ideas from interviewees

Fidelity Investments peanutzz Dec 17, 2021

Wouldn’t doubt it.

Meta 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 Dec 20, 2021

you think your ideas are that good huh

Bloomberg Vetamerse Dec 17, 2021

Hey OP keep us updated - if they don’t move you forward, they might just be out here stealing web3 ideas

Meta NaJt40 Dec 17, 2021

Yeah, of course. That's how it works with randomly selected peer designers.

Damn, that sounds so fun. Been designing Web3 dApps for awhile on NFTs and communities you login with your wallets.

Bloomberg Vetamerse Dec 17, 2021

So many potential ideas entreps can run with in web3 it’s crazy
