Apparently Meta is re-hiring some of the laid off engineers. We got one person in my Org. I came to know later that this is actually a US employment law to consider laid off folks upto 6 months for new hiring. The only different at Meta is that re-hiring don't require interview. This is quite different than my previous employers Microsoft and Amazon. Microsoft was requiring full loop for re-hiring laid off engineers. Amazon was on a different league - they were putting many engineers on their internal blacklist. The decision to re-hire is by a central committee, not by Individual managers.
That’s why it’s called laid off. Originally it was when factory workers were temporarily laid off when there was no work for a few weeks and then rehired. Like most things in modern economy it was twisted so far it’s almost unrecognizable until you remember anecdotes like this.
It’s so dumb to lay off and rehire within 6 months. Leadership deserves to be PIPed

“Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed”
And people still applied in mass
So the laid off folks get to keep their severance and bounce back to the same TC? Sounds like a dream to me
That Meta TC with last 1-3 years grant, not so nice
We recently got one person back in our team, apparently nothing related to TC is changed including the grant and status, unless they are past last day on payroll thing no severance to keep.
Are you sure Amazon put laid off employees on blacklist? If it’s performance based pip, it’s a known fact everywhere.
It’s if you leave while on dev plan you go on a blacklist. There are stories on blind where people have been put on dev plan after giving 2 week notice cause managers want to meet targets which can happen if the HRBP and the director go along with it
Could it be avoided by not giving 2 weeks notice but quiting the same day? Preferably at end of day or when your manager is out?
Hope Zuck doesn’t behave like Musk after re-hiring
Here leaders enjoy rules
OK nvidia
Wow this is amazing…. Free 3 months severance
Most separation agreements include a provision where you lose the severance if you get rehired within 6 months or so. Of course, the other side of the coin is that you get to keep your unvested shares.
Will they get severance if they get laid off again? Lol
What about tc?
TC doubled
Wow
