... I sold my vests in August and November. Moved the money to the Indian Mutual Fund (tax free). They have given me 36% since then... Looks like a race to me
I don’t trust both governments but if i needs to choose better one then it will be USD.
Why do you have to pick one? LoL Smart move is to diversify.
No thanks. It is a terrible move when you are planning to stay in US. I have enough options to invest here.
Nothing wrong in diversifying geographically, it's a smart move. Need to remember Meta also declined heavily in 2022. But can you elaborate on the tax free part?
LTCG becomes tax free if you buy a property with that money
I see, thanks for sharing, let me read more.
Ok Rajesh
Aa gaya paadne
IRS doesn't care if you invest in individual stock. When I'm completing 182 days, I'll move my money to 15-20 Indian stocks.
Thx. I see that smallcase is exempt from PFIC.
Modiji toh sab changaasi
Which Indian mutual fund?
Quant Small Cap Fund
Wow, you went all in on small caps? They could go either way, but I guess with Indian population and Jugads they only go up, it’s probably not like USA where you report everything honestly
Everyone telling me about PFIC... ... I don't live in the USA :-D
Probably you should edit your post and update it
How do you withdraw Indian mutual funds money to a US bank? I’ve been searching this for a while. Also, what’s the tax rate?
I'm not in the USA but don't invest in India if you plan to settle abroad.
Rupee depreciates. You were better off keeping it in index funds in the US, even after paying taxes. Then there is 2% probability of anyone going back and >50% probability of them coming back.
₹ doesn't depreciates 35% CAGR. I'm not in the USA
IMF is not tax free. That is tax fraud . LOL Indian mutual funds get the worst tax treatment if you in USA. You pay the taxes on it the same way as you would on bank interest and you don't get to deduct any losses.
No. I'll go back. Reinvestment of LTCG on properties makes your profit interest free till.... 10 Crore Then there's a double taxation policy. I'm not realising my profits till I'm in the USA
Those are RNOR rules and you can get complete 0 cap gains if you are going back
