Meta vs Flexport

Offer details: Meta: L5 , TC: 390K Flexport: Staff, TC:190+12% bonus+160K paper money TC: 370K Yoe: 8 While Flexport is preipo, it's culture seems really bad as per Blind and Glassdoor reviews. But if it IPOs next year, then paper money might double.

Anyone from Flexport - pls comment on the reality of IPO + culture. Thanks!

Flexport apt4ever Dec 10, 2021

IPO 2023 or later Culture is okay, I don’t feel like I have an expectation to work > 40 hours per week (usually work maybe 30tbh). But I’ve barely worked in the office, so I’m not that close with any of my coworkers. Our monolith ruby app is a bit of a mess, so a lot of work in the next year is going to be cleaning it up to a service oriented architecture. It’s important but pretty boring work. Domain is pretty interesting IMO, which is why I was interested.

Thank you! Super helpful. Btw any comment on offered pay?

Join flexport, for one year. If things go well—-then join facebook

Walmart Oslo51 Dec 10, 2021

Facebook offer is valid for one year

Negotiate for a ton more equity from Flexport, stay a year to the vesting cliff, and see how it’s going. Interview elsewhere to have more alternatives since Meta is a terrible company.

Google MartialLaw Dec 10, 2021

Interviewed at flex port a couple of years ago, they develop in ruby. Interviewed with their former cto, who is now at another company last year. Had fun asking him a behavioral question about making a call about tech platform decisions, how does he decide when to change language etc... Super weak answer

We have a monolith RoR backend but have been decomposing it into primarily Java services for the past couple years. It’s an ongoing process, as you might imagine. Our current CTO was a technology director at Amazon Logistics.

Current CTO is pretty legit

Flexport lSnC14 Dec 10, 2021

Depends on what you want. Facebook will for sure be the better name on the resume but if you want to get in early and have a shot at great upside in a few years, Flexport is a good option. WLB is good (almost never over 40 hours) and culture isn’t as bad as people on blind make it out to seem.

Walmart tvlqntjd OP Dec 10, 2021

Thanks! As long as it's not uber 2.0 ie bro culture. Btw any feedback on offered TC?

Flexport lSnC14 Dec 10, 2021

With $10 valuation, I feel like it’s a strong offer but Flexport is not doing great on offer acceptance rate so I think you can come in strong with your leverage. And don’t think it’s bro culture at all, but I’m a late 20s male so hard for me to say lol

Flexport =100B Dec 11, 2021

How many shares you will be getting?

Walmart tvlqntjd OP Dec 11, 2021

How much can I get? :)

I was in the same situation a few months back. Flexport vs some other public companies good offers. Decided to join Flexport due to the potential of a big payout. Most of the people are nice. No expectation to work more than 40hr. Lots of chaos due to exponential growth. Vision is great but it will take a few years to execute due to domain complexity and poor execution. No regret so thought

PM me don’t miss flexport offer.

Flexport bfgwirwx7 Dec 11, 2021

That’s a solid offer from Flexport. Your likely/expected total pay will be higher at Facebook for sure, but there is a chance at upside with Flexport, so I think you should take whichever job sounds more interesting and offers you more growth. Don’t go into Flexport assuming a 2022 IPO. I’d bet 2024 or even later, but I do think it will happen eventually.

Flexport lGFL15 Dec 12, 2021

As someone who came to Flexport from FB, agree with "depends what you want" answer. Two totally different companies, chances for impact, etc. You'll definitely make more money short-term at FB.

Meta ewCf45 Dec 20, 2021

what would choosing Flexport optimize for, as oppose to choosing Facebook?

Flexport lGFL15 Jan 27, 2022

Making a positive real-world impact (IMO).
