re: Meta slashing perks like free laundry, dry cleaning, and to-go boxes. "In a tone Metamates described as combative, Meta’s CTO, Andrew Bosworth, chafed at the perceived sense of entitlement on display in the comments. Mike Schroepfer, the outgoing CTO, also wrote in the comments in support of the changes." https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/11/technology/facebook-meta-perks.html?partner=slack&smid=sl-share I can't imagine an exec at a company like Meta calling out employees like that lol.
Lol it says a lot that such a trivial issue made it to NYT
The CTO is right, there are reasonable perks but providing to-go boxes of food for family and friends is above and beyond. Meta employees are paid enough to buy their own food and do their own laundry.
Employees don't just use it for family and friends but also for themselves though. They could just do what Google did and put a limit of one box per person.
Yeah one box or person seems reasonable. But you could still bring your large family to eat in every day and that is allowed?
Many tech employees are very entitled. It’s true.
Especially Boz by the sounds.
Its funny that people are defending boz who is worth 100s of millions as opposed to the rank and file. He did show exceptional leadership by such comments - part of the reason why the entire leadership and management is cringe and the company is a dumpster fire.
Joining meta next month and I absolutely agree with Bosworth. Meta employees are paid more than enough and shouldn’t rely on their employer to do their laundry.
Our new CTO is a company clown. No eng background to speak of either. People who have been around ignore most of what he says and writes.
Interesting, thank for sharing. He has a CS degree though and was briefly a SDE at Microsoft.
Who cares if has eng background, the CTO is a leader of an organization and main duty is to enable a company to reach its financial and marketing goals using an innovative approach and technology
Metamates are stressed bcoz of the crash of stock price already. Everybody knows what comes next: layoff. They've been waiting for such a golden opportunity to rant...
Tbh, complaining about lack of free laundry and not being able to bring food home for your family while making close to $1M is the pinnacle of entitlement. Sums up perfectly everything that is wrong with Tech and Silicon Valley
Yes
