I am currently at a semiconductor company , in a stable hardware job. Been here around 2.5 years but feels secure. WLB is pretty good, unless there is a hot project. Division sales growth is not great. I have an offer from Micron at same level. Can you please help me understand work culture, and Micron company prospects. Do they have regular layoffs due to cyclic industry. Current TC: 190k New : 280k Yoe: 13
Expect instability. Micron has regular layoffs.
Is it like every 2-3 years? How is the performance evaluation at Micron? Is there any forced ranking?
Yeah, about every 2-3 years, but it depends on the market. This last time they laid off employees indiscriminately whereas in the past they would try to get rid of low performers. Each department has a bell curve that they must fit their performance ratings to. The system sucks. I was given a 3 this last time (meets expectations) even though my manager had amazing things to say about my work. So I asked my manager why I received the 3 rating and it was because other people in the department needed 4s and 5s because it was time for them to get promoted. Such a BS reason.
Memory is volatile. No pun intended.
With that sort of TC increase, you shouldn’t be asking any questions.
Depends on where you're going from so being undisclosed doesn't help blind evaluate. For example, going from intel is no brainer rn.
Going from my company is a no-brainer for me..haha. I just don’t know yet if Micron is a good long term place for me
Btw the company i currently work wont allow any emails from Blind. So you wont see anyone with that company next to their name here. My blind account is from a previous job.
Memory is cyclical and Micron’s been trying to differentiate so it isn’t at the mercy of memory market swings. It so far has not been successful and has layoffs every couple years.
What location is this? And If you can share what type of role I'm currently interviewing there need to know how much to ask for and what's the break down from base and rsu
When u get bump of 100k u just take it.
