I told my manager that I would be going to Salesforce. Looks like it's a direct competeter and I have been put on garden leave starting tomorrow. Need to know certain details about the way it works 1. I will be on microsoft's payroll for next 45 days but my access will be cut off today - does that mean I won't have access to my official email from tomorrow? 2. My last day of having access is today and LWD is in October third week - does that mean I have time till October to initiate the return of all microsoft tagged assets or does it need to be initiated today only? 3. Is there any buyout policy for this forced notice period? 4. Will I have access to resources like StayFit, HRWeb portal etc? There is a compete policy. Manager has to offer Garden leave. There is no other option.

There was no option for buyout at all. Paid leave for 45 days with no access. I relaxed for a while, drove around few states in india and joined Salesforce now :)

@tentaive it was a rather smooth experience (except few mistakes made by payroll team but that's a story for later). I was in touch with my team admin for returning assets and requested her to continue the communication at my personal email. I e-mailed askhr as well to let them know that my further communication will originate from my personal email and requested them to take a note of the same. HR will share an exit checklist and following it will get you out of the woods
Does Microsoft check if you are really having an offer from a competitor?
Microsoft runs on trust. It doesn't check if you had an offer from competitor
