Microsoft Interview, Moving from back-end to frontend roles.

I am interviewing for a role at MS that is primarily react and a lot of UI and dashboarding. I have been a back end java engineer for over 10 years. My HM round was positive and recruiter was confident I got thru but need to wait for the offer, will it be an easy switch or am I setting myself up for failure. I have never worked on any java script framework ever. Is it a wise move?

You’ll be fine. I have a similar background transition.

No, don’t do it.

why?

Personally, I did the same. I had 3 years of experience in Java and then I switched jobs that had almost everything in front end (React, type script, etc). I am not liking the change. JavaScript feels fucked up and I forgot about design patterns and good old object oriented programming.

Weird. You don’t use TS? TS happens to be our savior there. Not to mention ES6 now supports it too.

In the same boat. Have about 4.5 years of backend/data engineering experience.
