Is the offer from MSFT even worth consideration? Currently at Intel G9, 9 YoE MS is lowballing in every segment. Offer is for 64 which is equivalent to G8. I want to switch jobs but don’t want to go to lower level. Few points to consider: - current compensation is after 5% pay cut. - I am a high performer- have received retention bonus twice in last 3 years, have received 140% and 150% of target stock grant, QPB+ twice last year and APB+ this year. - About 350K in unvested INTC stocks. MS is offering 250K signon. #hardware #interview #semiconductor #joboffer #offer
Been at Intel and MSFT in the past. There's a high bar for external L65 hires. If you're going to be in the Bay and not Redmond there's probably room for them to increase the offer, but you likely won't be able to get to 65 unless you're truly special. If you're a high performer at Intel stay and get to G10 before interviewing since it will carry much more weight that being a strong G9. Also, dm for cruise they'll probably meet your level and comp expectations.
I would take MSFT for stability and stock growth. INTC RSUs are a joke.
My friend is g8 .. he got exact same offer.. he rejected it and few months later went as L65 to msft.. sometimes it just takes some extra push and u will save 3-4 yrs of ur career trying to get L65
grade 8/9 at intel is very gray. you could be a high performer but not much cross org vis/impact. I was at grade 8 at intel and got offered 64 at msft. I took the leap over, and they promoted me to 65 within a year. agree with comments above - there is a high bar for external 65s (even internal as it needs skip line / vp approval). most hiring managers would be reluctant to hire at 65+ as is. I would ask for more sign on and see what they say.
microsoft's bonus isn't guaranteed. But, between intel and msft as a company, I'd take msft.
Op- do you have a phd? Also- what is the location of microsoft position
Yes. Bay Area.
Msft 65 although called principal level is equivalent to intel G9. You should push to 65
I was G8 (just promoted) at Intel when I got my L64 offer from microsoft, recently promoted to Principal Engineer (i joined late 2021). I had PhD+4 yrs of experience. That time my offer for hillsboro campus was, 180k base, 150k sign on (80k after joining, 70k in 2nd year) & 350k RSU over 4 years. One more thing, for microsoft’s bonus, l64 range is 0-30% and you should consider 15% for your TC comparison.
Did you have competing offer? The number is way out of reach under current weather.
What’s yearly refresher stocks (RSU) at MS for L65?
huh good luck if you get $61.5K Bonus, you always get average which is 15%-17%. not even top performance can get 30%
Agreed.. OP, just negotiate hard or take risk of rejecting this and doing more interviews.. u will be wasting 4 yrs of time going to L65.. more than money it is time that counts
Yea. That’s what I am thinking. I Will negotiate for Principal otherwise reject.
How is your bonus calculated
@Intel? 15% APB target. I haven’t included QPB since it doesn’t exist anymore
