Dear friends, I have stepped into a situation where I can’t make an immediate decision without help. Two offers: Microsoft, SDE 2, TC 190k, fully remote. Walmart, SDE 3, TC 125k, On-site Bentonville. Microsoft is still transferring my H1b in a “steady“ pace. Walmart has already transferred my H1b. Currently I am working in Goldman. Trade off: Walmart never lays off. I can survive recessions in Walmart; Microsoft looks better for a SDE resume, maybe it helps to get a job easier should any accident happens. Dilemma: Walmart has already filed and get approved of my H1b. They paid for filling. I feel guilty to reject and don’t know how to open my mouth if I don’t go there. Microsoft is my dream company because unlike most of you, I am not an experienced sde and I need growth and reputation. Goldman Sachs gives me a harbor: I survived a layoff and it seems I am safer now? TC: 125k YoE: 3.5 #tech
Join Microsoft, and pray for the best. Better brand value. Should be worth the risk

Better brand value will also help you land more interviews if anything bad happens. The TC difference will also make any potential lay offs less stressful. My vote is MS.
Not even a question significant TC difference. Please remove that never lay off thing from your mind. Can’t you realize companies act on their best interests seeing the current situation. You got the same risk anywhere in present condition. If Microsoft is offering you in this condition while layoffs are going on I guess the HR and team are aware of how important the role so they are offering you. So take Microsoft and work remote happily

Walmart does fire just dont get into news because they hire lots and lots of contractors. They let go lot of contractors recently. Also L3 pay is shit at walmart and very hard to get promotion due to politics. If you want to learn and grow, without a doubt join MS.
L3/X3 at Walmart is a damn joke. Especially in tier 3 locations like Bentonville. Take the free processing from Walmart and go to Microsoft. The executives at Walmart are a bunch of clowns. They don't know what they are doing. They are professionals at pissing off everyone and maximizing their paychecks and stock grants.

I think it's good. It is a money making machine for MS so layoff proof. I guess in this season whichever team is hiring is actually layoff proof and making good money.
My team has had headcount open up three times over the past year and every time an offer has been extended we’ve had to rescind it. I would tread very lightly with a Microsoft offer until it’s your start date.

I just transferred my H1 in less than a month time using fragomen. I quit Microsoft few weeks ago. Total time (calendar days): 22-24 days.
