Friends - Have an interview coming up for principal Product Manager position. Has anyone appeared for a Principal PM position at Microsoft recently? If yes, care to share what was the process and what were the types of questions asked (sense, execution, behavioral) The recruiter hasn't shared any details on the process. TC: 350K
Recommend clearly focusing on how you delivered (measurable) impact over your last few projects, with a clear customer focus. Be ready to explain how you measure, KPIs , OKRs, how you run technical programs from e2e, growth mindset, etc. if the role is more technical in nature, prepare for systems design, api design at a high level. Good luck!
Is it for Azure or another Org? Microsoft PM interviews are team by team without a consistent format, but generally Azure PM loops will be less PM case study type and more domain expertise focused, and other orgs will have more typical PM loops.
Not Azure. This is for WebXT
I had both case and sys design for mine. Other comments covered it prep star format and focus on your impact in past roles and how you demonstrated growth mindset. Also try to be likeable and open to input. Having strong opinions generally goes against growth mindset. If TPM role focus more on sys design. For either you should know how web applications work, requests, tech stack. Lastly you will likely have dev mgr interviewers so prep how you work effectively with dev to drive progress.
Prepare at least 15-20 examples from your previous companies showcasing your work and how you managed, led, planned and delivered everything while driving business results. Are you interviewing for L 65 or L66?
@level - Don't know. Title is principal. Does the process or expectations differ? And can one be considered for a higher level if you perform well?
Ask recruiter what level it is. Principal band in US has levels 65-67 in it. Salary varies significantly between them. The HM also should have a level in mind, but may have some leeway. Eg if it's an L65 position, but they got budget, if your offer ends up high TC-wise, they may bump the level to make numbers work. Generally you want to minimize the level and maximize the TC offer :) Less stress, more cash and easier to get promo. Next band after principal is Partner and promo to L68 is crazy hard, you need a couple CVPs outside your org vouch for you.
Didn’t WebXT just axe everyone? 👀
