Microsoft: Shocking Low-ball

Just got a verbal offer by Microsoft and the details are: Role: Business Program Manager (CO+I) Location: Redmond Base: $91,500 Sign-on: 7k RSU: 15k/4 L59 Seems very shocking for the experience and qualifications: 2.5 YOE with Masters Degree How do I push it to L60/61? Update: Declined the offer as they only went up to 97k/10k/20k L59.

Reject and keep trying.

Seems about right for Program Manager ? They usually get like 30 - 40% less than swe for the same level

Microsoft d38sd May 19, 2021

That's not true at Microsoft. PM and SWE salaries are similar. Also, this is BPM...it's a paper pusher job and has no connections with engineering.

Salesforce MXYF54 May 19, 2021

Product Managers get paid more or less the same as swe, I am pretty sure Program Managers get paid way less. OP is asking for Program Manager

Microsoft d38sd May 19, 2021

You're not getting L61 if they tagged you as L59/new grad.

Intel .(•_•). OP May 19, 2021

Any idea on what to ask for L60? Base, Sign-on, RSU

Microsoft d38sd May 19, 2021

No idea on BPM.

Microsoft 42cloud May 19, 2021

Why were you being interviewed for L59 with 2.5 YOE?

Intel .(•_•). OP May 19, 2021

The Recruiter never mentioned about the Level during the interview process.

Microsoft oebdjebsj May 19, 2021

OP, I can’t remember any hiring for a BPM at a level lower than 62. Look for another job on the career site. You can do much better. Coming in that low will take a long time to evolve to a better level.

Intel .(•_•). OP May 19, 2021

Your point is 100% valid. I have a negotiation call with the recruiter coming up, and I am planning to at least ask for L60 with 115k base, and increased Sign-on & RSU If not, reject it.

Microsoft oebdjebsj May 19, 2021

I hire a lot and we don’t have many BPMs that low for that level. It’s strange. We bring in new college grads at higher levels than that.
