'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
Got offers with ~30% increase in TC. Have been at MS for ~16 years. Recently promo to L67. SWE. Should I consider a counter from MS to match TC? Is it too risky at Principal level, as it might leave bad taste in mouth? Is it common for people to stay after TC match? Or, generally it is best to leave once you have spilled the beans? Skip indicated a different project and direct reporting to them. I am bored with my current team and project. TC - 430K
If you’re Partner bench, maybe stay. Normally I’d say leave and you should if you think they’re keeping you around with higher pay to wean off their dependency on you.
Thx. It is hard to say if I am partner bench (unless promo to L67, makes it so). Also it is hard to say, if they are weaning off dependency. Hence the confusion. Partner promo also would take another 3-5 years. Might as well get outside experience during this time.
I mean I'd guess at your level if they're making you a counter it's because you're not easily replaceable. If you've been there 16 years you've already proven your loyalty. I'd say it's fine to take the counter. But if you think the other offer is better in terms of work then take that.
If I were bored like you said, I would leave. 16 years at Microsoft is a huge accomplishment. Go out on top. Edit: I see you would be getting a different project. I would still leave. If you get the new project and you’re still bored, you can’t come back and tell them “I’m bored again”.
Good points. Thx.
What is the counter offer given?
16 years is a long time. Were you looking to move for another reason besides comp and boredom?
Yes, different tech stack, culture, resume etc.
I took counter to stay a couple years ago and it has worked out great. Zero issues. Congrats on 67 - that’s getting up there.
👍
It’s fine to stay if you want. Don’t believe the nonsense about grudges or whatever, it’s all written by recruiters who want you to leave.
I was going to say this. I took a counter offer at IBM twice and everyone was professional about it.
