Got a verbal offer from the recruiter finally after a month of to and fro due to a mistake made by recruiters during my interview. Last week they literally called and rescinded the offer and that is when I had to give up and ask if they can give me the previous level 61 they offered in first place(was asking for 63 with 10 YOE). Need to make a move to Seattle due to family so need it :(. Still i never thought I’ll be lowballed to this level. Let me know what you think about these numbers and what should I expect as per my negotiation. Offer details Base 125K asked 140k Stocks 30k/4 asked 60k/4 Joining 10k asked 30K Honestly, this Tc is less than my current , but 2 income > 1 and this willing to move but not at that lowballed offer. Recruiter reluctantly told me that she will talk to the program manager again and let me know. Communication with this recruiter has been really choppy so it makes it even harder for me to negotiate. Update: Revised number: Base :130 Stocks :50 Joining :15 Scheduled to speak with Hiring manager as well.. hopefully some thing good comes out of the call.
Role?
SDE 2 -L61
Isn't that TC for SDE 1? Even Amazon pays better than that and they are known for being frugal
WTF? Have some freakin self respect. There’s shit ton of tech companies in Seattle. Only reason I would accept this offer is to move here and have time to interview in a year or earlier. They should have at least offered L62. It’s the same band as L61.
Lol.. exactly my thought, but no one is forcing me to take the offer so how does it hurts my self respect. I am willing to do this so that my wife can also start working. Monitoring we will be doing better due to 2 income. Obviously, I won’t be stuck with such a low TC for long if the numbers didn’t normalize to my level. So yes 1 year and move on..
Makes sense. I would still only take this offer if it’s the only one you have. Let me tell you right now, it’s next to impossible for you to get to L62 in a year, let alone L63. Unless you consistently ‘keep hitting it out of be park’. In which case they can re-level you with a justification that you were under leveled on hire.
10yoe? Lvl 61? Wow. What level are you at gs?
Can’t say that here for obvious reasons, but here is a hint we are very common..
Wow. I have 1 YOE and got 145k base 10/year tock and 20k signon
That’s nice. Congrats.
I'm saying you deserve more
Lol I have 3 YOE and have 145k base at a company that is known to pay less than Microsoft. Your life sucks hahahaha turn that shit down
I mostly will. Thanks
Okay all critique aside, I have 2 YoE. Interviewed with MS and got an offer. 120k base, 130k In stocks over 4 years, 50k sign on bonus for L60. I think you could ask for more sign on, stocks and maybe a bit more in base. I know MS won’t offer a big base but you could definitely ask for 135k base with 10 YoE.
It honestly sounds like he tanked the interview
Perhaps, but this is lowballing to a great level.
Why is Microsoft still embarrassing themselves like this? Newgrads who join at 59 are getting higher than that.
New grad pay = L62 at Microsoft
Even I have heard the same. RSUs for new grads are insane.
Your major reason is family & 2 income > 1. You can make a move with this & keep trying. It shouldn't be hard to score in Seattle. Probably interview didn't go well for you or recruiter has better options. MS is still a great name to have when interviewing other places. Nobody will ask your level at MS during a switch, it's derived from yoe & your knowledge/interview performance,. So go ahead & keep looking, you'll be absolutely fine.
That’s the plan, but somehow feels wrong in taking a lower TC and on top of that getting lowball as heck.. It has been a good minute from the last time I saw a sub 140k base for me.
Nothing is stopping you from trying out other places in parallel which you should anyway. This is just a fallback to help your moving decision if nothing else works. You can always tell them that you got a better offer and move on. This is infact a great fallback to support your family decision of moving places with 2 jobs. Many people have to move with just 1.
Don’t do it

If it's less than your current tc, of course it's no good! And everyone on blind will say "lowball"
Agree, but can’t pass it on without a solid reason as Mrs has already started making plans.. grrrr. Trying to get more interviews, but don’t know if I’ll have enough time.
