I am a senior data scientist at Microsoft recently promoted to 63. I got a Staff DS offer from Walmart Lab (AI/ML position)#. Should I move in this market? Current msft TC: ~300k (196 base+40 annual bonus+60k stock (last vesting)) Walmart offer TC ~400k (210 base+42 annual + 50 sign on (per year for two years), 100k rsu (per year) ) I have a PhD with 3 yoe. Should I move considering the level, salary, recession, culture, wlb?
How difficult was the interview at Walmart ?
Not difficult.
Any LC hards ?
Stats / math PhD or general STEM field?
CS
Yr1 tc: 335k, yr2 tc:368k, yr3 tc: 352k Each yr you get 100k rsu vesting in 3 yrs. On avg, 350k tc for staff ds. This is standard offer. Bonus maybe half of 20% this yr. Depending on your team, there may not be wlb.
Thanks, I was told 100k rsu+new hire rsu. This is why I said 100k per year in average. Why bonus is half? Recruiter said 20% minimum guarantee. It can be more based on performance.
Dependng on org, bonus varies and is half for some orgs.
Which org? Ads?
It’s not ads , global tech I guess
Is this a remote role?
Not fully remote. 2 days per month going to office.
Location ?
Bay Area
It’s a good package
Is it 300k in Seattle or Bay Area for Msft ?
Bay Area
My team is in Seattle tho. They changed my base after I moved to California
Dont move for anything less than 450k
This is more than maximum Walmart pays for this level. I am still negotiating but best case scenario 400k with signing etc
400k first year and 2nd Year TC is a good deal for Staff
Only 2 days a month or week going to office ?
Month , more than 90% remote
I think they want us to be in CA but only come to the office for some meetings planning

If you have good performance record in an important team on profitable product it is higher risk to move regardless of how stable new org or company is.
Working on pretty important project and the team are very happy with my performance. I am not happy with my career growth at Microsoft tho. I had to push them a lot to get promoted. Walmart position is like 64-65 I think. But I really like MSFT culture, flexibility and WLB which I am sure I will not get at Walmart
