Finally it's time to say bye to MSFT. Recently got a verbal offer from Facebook (E4) with no numbers yet. I am expecting to sign the offer towards the end of April. My Annual Rewards/vesting will be in September worth $90k (RSUs at current price + target bonus). Need to be on payroll till 30th June for bonus and till 31st August for RSUs There are other posts on Blind suggesting Fb is flexible with joining dates. But I believe delay of 4-5 months would be an overkill. Please suggest if otherwise. PS. I have upcoming on-sites in next 2 weeks which can be leveraged for negotiations. Will add fb numbers as they arrive How to time the date of joining considering the following factors: 1. Facebook PSC (Half yearly review cycle) 2. Ramp up period at Facebook 3. Facebook stock vesting dates 4. Save the bonus (atleast) Role: SDE2 YOE: 2 at MSFT (+3 years in India) TC: 190K Visa: H1B Please share your thought process for selecting the option in the poll. #engineering #software #swe
For those who are voting join FB at the earliest, how do you justify the loss of 90k worth RSUs in 4 months? Plus if OP is on H1B, the transfer will take some time as well meaning OP can't join before mid-end of May anyway. Then it's 90k RSUs additional by staying another 3 months
If refresher are valued over 90k, you can justify it.
This is the right advice. Unless FB grants you additional 100k stocks, I don’t think it worth losing 90k stocks just by staying 3 odd months at MS. Plus, you will get to enjoy your WLB for 3 more months.
FB offer is valid for 1 year and your visa transfer process itself may take 1-2 months. Join after September.
Afaik visa transfer receipt can allow us start a new job. Am I missing something?
Why you want to take that risk?
FB gave me 4 options for start dates, within a 3 month span and I’m sure I could have pushed it further if I wanted. Discuss with your recruiter, let them know you’re excited about the FB role but are also a bit hesitant as you don’t want to miss out on your huge upcoming vest. They might give you a cash equivalent in your sign on or bake it into your offer
I am just concerned if it comes as a red flag for pushing too far out
You need to tell them why you’re pushing it. It becomes a red flag if you’re being shady or withholding information
Anyone from Facebook who can shed some light on how different times of joining impact performance reviews?
How do u have 90k stock vesting at l61? Crazy
That’s with stock appreciation. OP joined 2 years back and probably got 150-170k stocks.
Stocks vest quarterly, 90k quarterly is insane

You miss another side of the picture: what does the pay in FB look like? Joining FB early can let you start FB pay early and you need to factor this in
Thanks for that insight. There is definitely a difference in base (20-25% delta) but here we are talking about a 4 month period. Stock vesting can be weighed in. Will edit.
