I currently work at Microsoft as a PM1 and have 3 YOE. I recently received an offer from Datadog for PM2, but the TC was lower than expected. They offered 160k base and 180k equity over 4 years. I am about to be promoted soon at Microsoft, which would make the TC very similar at both places. What would you recommend doing? Is taking Datadog the right career move at this point? #pm #productmanager #Microsoft #Datadog

Microsoft! Datadog same value not a good option . Take the Microsoft promotion and grow
Microsoft has much better brand name. Thing is you shouldn’t switch jobs unless it’s for a big TC increase. There’s no point, you have to do all that ramp work for a marginal difference in pay.
Lol
Yes, get out, don’t stagnate at MSFT. You’ll be looked down on as a coaster by the rest of the world. You can always come back at a much higher level, skipping years of frustration. Ironically even Microsoft values external experience more than internal.
Echoing this - 3 years is a good start. Go somewhere else to get a fresh perspective. Keep learning new stuff.
Every company values external hires and pays them more than internal hires. That’s the only way people are gonna leave. The current job is for more money. You shouldn’t job hop, unless it’s for substantial increase in pay
Which team in AEP? Please DM
What’s the expected TC with 3 YOE usually?
Datadog is dogshit .. better to stay at MS. If you are getting out of MS go to some better brand mate. Best of luck.
I don't think it's dogshit. Well, except that we use Jira.
I didn’t meant to offend you or anyone. But you have ridiculous HRs and recruiters all across the globe at Datadog . You may be loosing good talent due to this. I personally had very weird and bad experience with them. Which gives me the impression of the work culture and people you have around you. I worked at MSFT before and one of the best AskHR you will find out there many years after leaving the company. I’ll still suggest OP and others to stay away from dogshit aka Datadog.
Stay at MSFT and get the promo. A promo in your CV is a great evidence of your ability to perform & execute in a big company. Plus, once you have a promo & higher TC, you can ask for level+1 as well as higher TC at other companies. Also if you do want to come back, you will be able to negotiate a higher level if you go after promo. Reading some comments about stagnation etc., that’s BS in your case. You’ve only spent 3 years after grad and are able to jump levels. You’re doing good.
Depends on what team you are on at Microsoft. If you roles is within the growth engine domains like AI, just take the promo and stay
Stay at MS or go somewhere better
Is there any hiring going on @Microsoft?
Would love to know (as a new grad 🥲)
They’re posting dozens of jobs every day but no idea if it’s just fluff
