Microsoft vs Yahoo
Most post about Yahoo here are just memes about it still existing. Since it's now it's own company again I am curious how is it there? How's the comp and the growth? It looks like they generally pay more than Microsoft for levels below principal and they are a fully remote / remote first. Aside from Microsoft being a bigger more esteemed company (especially now partnering with OpenAI) it doesn't seem like it would be a better option if you value compensation and remote work. #yahoo #yahoo inc
Iâd take pay/wlb tbh. Worrying about prestige between these two companies is like worrying about prestige between a Buick Verano and Toyota Camry.

sde 2 is not a level at yahoo.... Do you mean IC3? And Microsoft segments their bands in a way different than most tech companies so its not really a good comparison.

Wow, people have no idea. Yahoo is a shitshow. MS stock has been on the rise, with great products and opportunities with OpenAI and Azure as well as their own AI R&D. Plus, Bing as search gets reinvented, Outlook, and ads services. MS has 220K employees, while Yahoo has 7 or 8K. I canât believe people are even trying to compare the two. Youâre not going to see anything interesting coming out of Yahoo. Weâre still doing layoffs, BTW.
Obviously Microsoft will have more interesting things and opportunities. That's not part of the question. Unless you're saying Yahoo's work life balance is significantly worse than Microsoft or Microsoft pays significantly more than Yahoo then it doesn't matter.

As previous Yahoo employee, I loved working there. But that was true prior to the purchase of Apolo, this is when I left. I assume some has changed and some not
I loved working at Yahoo but was impacted by completely blindsiding silent layoffs. Itâs happening frequently and constantly. Youâre better off w MSFT rn
Yahoo has become a toxic place to work. No WLB. I have been working over the weekends for past 6 months. Leadership doesnât appreciate it. I am planning to leave here as soon as I find a new job. As others mentioned, there is layoff every week. Insane. No motivation.
