Does anyone here live or have any inputs about the quality of living in Morgan Hill? I see there hardly are any dessert or Thai or Indian restaurant there .... everything seems to need a drive to San Jose. I specially interested to hear comments from the Asian communities #housing #sanfrancisco
Not Asian friendly for now. But with San Jose big tech offices grow MH and Gilroy will develop a lot. Good investment and good area to be in. Close proximity to farms, wineries, ocean.
Thanks lollipot! Do you currently live in MH ?
Not yet. Will be moving soon.
I have many friends who live there. There is no dearth of restaurants in nearby areas - for any cuisine. You just need to be willing to drive to maybe south San Jose which isn’t far. The biggest issue with Morgan Hill is that schools are universally crap. And this is also why home prices there are lower than the rest of Bay Area. If schools don’t matter to you, it’s a decent place to live. Morgan Hill has beautiful homes that are traditionally designed and in a good way, beautiful homes with pools etc. But yes, for eating out and things to do, you may have to drive a bit. And schools have low ratings - and it has been this way for years. The ratings aren’t improving.
They have 10/10 charter schools and great one private.
Not everyone wants to send their kids to those. Many people I know will be willing to pay 2.5 Mil for a crap home in say Palo Alto or Cupertino for the schools there even if they drown in debt with the mortgage.
My kid attended charter school. Good school for up to middle school. But it's a lottery. You might not get in. Driving to San Jose is a must for food. The town water bill is dumb. They use your quouta on the winter months as a baseline for the whole year. So if you don't use as much water in the other months, they will still charge you that rate. Infrastructure is so bad. Many times the town lose internet and phone cellular because someone cut through the cable in a new construction. Restaurants are not authentic. Some rednecks and racists. Caltrain is a crapshoot. There's only one track and the latest one in the morning is 730 ish. So if you have to drop off kid, it's not very convenient East Dunne or East Cochrane is nice. But it's pricey. Likely 1.4m and up
Any idea about the Coyote Ranch estates? That is where we might be living if we decide to move in
There are some restaurants but not a lot. You need to drive to gilroy or south San Jose for more options. The good thing about Morgan hill is it is connected via Caltrain to SJ, Palo Alto and SF. There are some really nice neighborhoods and houses though
Which areas are the best? Zip code? Streets?
There's only one zip code in Morgan Hill that I know of. 95037. Caltrain is a crapshoot. There's only one track and the latest one in the morning is 730 ish. So if you have to drop off kid, it's not very convenient
Over a decade time, Morgan Hill will do better than east bay because it is close to the south bay.
I can see that. Loads of farm lands and easier laws will help with major development in Morgan Hill.
Anyone who lives/will-shift to Morgan Hill. Might be getting my offer accepted over the weekend in Morgan Hill - so wanted confirmation. Asian here.
It's a white people town. Asians are minorities here. Asian food in town sucks, go to SJ for good good.
Not for long. Look at the new construction projects and proximity to the south bay. It's gonna grow.
MH desi resident here. Been living for about a year. Our offices are in mountain view and we commute x3 a week. Anything specifically you're looking for? The place is a hidden gem. Incredible mileage for money when it comes to buying a house. We shifted to a new construction. Lots of upcoming options here - both residential and commercial - review the city website. We don't need schools for ~5 years so not a big deal at the moment - although we're still in 6,5,8 school district - not too bad. Very strong + close knit Indian community and WhatsApp group. Peaceful folks and very countryside vibes. Commute (to MTV) is normal and not very different from Fremont type areas. Rather better commute if you optimize the timing a bit. Absolutely no regrets moving here. Didn't want to live in a shack without backyard in upper-south-bay. DM. Happy to help.
MH desi resident here as well. Moved four months back I am happy we moved here as we like our home and the peaceful neighborhood. The only thing I miss is the authentic Indian food but a drive to San Jose on weekends for that is not too bad. I commute to Mountain View three times a week and if you can start a little later in the day the drive is 35 mins which is not bad in my book. There is an Indian whatsapp group where we found some like minded folks for weekend activities. Overall I am happy we moved here as we got a good house for the price we paid compared to what we would get anywhere in San Jose, Milpitas, Newark or fremont
