Asking for a friend My TC:270k How is the institutional securities technology division? How is the tech stack? How is the engineering culture there? Pros/cons? How is the work life balance? How is the stability in the company? How is the layoff situation and the fears? How easy or hard is it to move from New York location to Bay Area or Seattle later? What is the process? Is there a certain amount of time that one needs to spend in a team before they can move?
which group, what are they offering?
Institutional securities division
Senior engineer role
Tech stack is legacy, engineering culture doesn't exist, work life balance depends on how much yout boss likes you. It seems like we have been laying off people pretty much every quarter and are currently experiencing another one, however our leadership keeps it hush hush and passive aggressively threatens everyone involved into silence. It is happening irregardless of department.
How many people are getting laid off every quarter?
The main tech stack is: Is it this? DB: Sybase, DB2 and Snowflake Language: Java and Spring UI: React

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be particularly challenging under managers who lack genuine technical expertise. Often, I’ve observed that managers, especially those from specific backgrounds which seem to represent a significant proportion, tend to overstate their technical knowledge. This becomes problematic when someone with actual high-tech experience joins the team. The manager’s insecurity can lead to an unnecessarily demanding non technical work environment, significantly impacting work-life balance.
Sounds like my experience at Barclays
Is it happening in institutional securities division too?
What is the offer TC? Like the Base and Bonus.
Layoffs every quarter, No communication ever Always in constant fear Tech stack? Good joke To much bureaucracy
Haha I guess what I was feeling wasn’t an exception lol
