Most unethical industry?

On average, obviously good / bad actors in each. Can’t wait for the OP is a snowflake comments Edit 1: oops, forgot to list government Edit 2: Since finance is a popular choice, which area? Lending? Trading? Insurance? Brokerages? Edit 3: Really curious why people hate finance so much. Besides insurance, screw those guys

Electric vehicles. Wait until the batteries need to be recycled

[24]7.ai bubbletee Mar 19, 2021

Not really. EV batteries have a long life on their own. Even when they lose enough efficiency such that they have to be removed from a vehicle they would still get a second life as grid storage battery.

Amazon not amazon Mar 19, 2021

if you are raising concern about batteries recycling, why limiting to just EV? You should include everything- laptops, phones (actually much large contributors than ev thanks to apple), et

The martin shkreli types are immoral but overall big pharma does more good than harm

Amazon gawr Mar 19, 2021

shkreli is small fish compared to the majority of people in pharma, at least in the US

Just my opinion - feel free to disagree. The market’s invisible hand does a great job at incentivizing the development of life-saving drugs which overall are hit-or-miss investments (may fail phase 3). Big + for society. However once the drug is out in the market, patent law allows for a virtual monopoly on it which allows for pricing at way more than development cost + reasonable ROI. Super unethical imho. Also hard to regulate externally (we’ve seen that cost+ based pricing in government can cause massive accounting manipulation and waste). Plus ability to advertise / give kickbacks to doctors for prescribing unneeded drugs / opioid crisis etc all not 😇

Tobacco, firearms, plastics, whaling, logging, ship breaking, gill net fishing, live animal exhibits (zoos, aquariums, circus), Ponzi, pump and dump, pyramid schemes, loan sharking, anything that steals a person’s livelihood to provide for their family in the name of efficiency.

Government. Power corrupts.

The church/organized religion is the most unethical industry. They perpetuate racism and group identity resulting in wars, they apply authoritarian moral standards inflicting mental health harm (as in the case of the recent Atlanta shootings) and they take money from the poor, using it to build huge ornate palaces.

I think it’s a tie between Pharma, finance, and our Political system. But tbh, when it comes to the top of any industry, they are out to get you
