I have spent 3 years in DV and realized i like architecture more than DV, designing systems at a higher level and not uArch. Is the transition to arch possible (do i have to do uArch first)? What skillset is needed by Architecture teams? Any inputs will help.
Learn SystemC, some virtual platform like Simics, C++ Being able read and write HAS is very important Understanding of bus, memory protocols, interfaces, cross domain communications is necessary
With c++, system verilog can i get into soc level architecture? I think thats were my interest is. Do i need to be in rtl coding role before that?
Thanks statarb. PhD is for the micro architecture?
You'll need RTL and cpp skills most likely.
@nomiracle you can try to transition by getting into RTL performance correlation. Start talking to the arch teams within Intel

You likely need at least a masters degree. Computer architecture is one of the few fields in which a PhD is almost required.
I have a master's in ee.. plus my dv experience
Have you taken graduate level computer architecture courses?
