I am a senior manager with Apple, with about 15 years of experience and 5 years of experience as manager. I am very hands on, and have a great understanding of intricate technology concepts. I want to move to consulting. Over my course of being at Apple, I ve enjoyed building solutions to problems with a lot of constraints. My core skillset are solution engineering and management. How can I move to consulting with reputable companies like McKinsey or BCG or like? Applying via the portal isn’t quite working. #consulting
MBB did not hire in 2023. Not even from reputed bschools. Dealmaking revenue is down significantly. No point hiring. Your experience seems more applicable to a PE firm.
I would advise against, unless you want to devote your life to work
Thanks for the advice. Thats a good call. I have a tendency to get drawn to super busy almost always available kind of attitude. I am not advocating for this, however I feel my work is actually my hobby too, because I just want to be super deep in it always. That doesn’t work too well as a manager, because I tend to delegate less.
> I just want to be super deep in it always when you do consulting, you will never get super deep into it. Most of your time, you will just scratch the surface of a new area and pretend to be more proficient than those people you are serving who have 10+ more years in the industry, and somehow you have to convince them with 3 months of time, your suggestion is better than theirs.
