I'm on my last h1b attempt, and I have two offers in hand. One of them with Micron (direct hire), and another at a big retailer through a staffing agency. If my h1b fails, Micron wants to ship me to Singapore, agency either wants Day-1 CPT (fuck no) or Canada. Agency is shady af but Canada >> Singapore. Which one would you pick? TC: 160 Your: 3
Be warned: Singapore still has extremely tight covid restrictions and curbs on daily life. Canada is much better
Based on your -> Canada >> Singapore I voted for staff. Personally I'd have chosen Singapore.
My logic being if everything fails, my credentials can get me something in Canada. I'm not sure how well I'll fare in Singapore
Trust your instincts.
If you are Desi go Canada if you are from Europe then Singapore
How come?
Europeans get “expat” packages in Singapore. While Indians will be lucky to even get relocation support. Unfair, yes. But that is how most companies discriminate based on nationality here. The chances of getting long-term residency visa (PR) is also practically zero for Indians now. The government doesn’t publish any criteria and approval is very public-sentiment dependent.
I'd add - - Whether you want to live in Asia or not. - Life stage - Would you like to travel or prefer convenience? Singapore is great on the latter, while travel for EP holders is somewhat restricted. Although a lot better than 2020 or early 2021 - Family or single? - Schooling is quite expensive for expats. Spouses cannot work if they're on dependent visa. - Culture at Micron in SG - I had a few friends who spent >5 years there. No complains overall. WLB was decent. But nothing spectacular. Most left for more fast growing opportunities eventually. So speak to people who might work there. Good luck.
You made a great point. My concern is being stuck in Singapore while my work visa is pending, so being 'stuck' there till my paperwork goes through
Singapore is a really nice place to live
