There is a lot of(valid) criticism about China and censorship, yet India seems to do the same but it's rarely or never complained about. How can they even try to be a modern country with things like this going on ? Freedom of speech and separation of church and state is like over 100 year old principles, yet those Asian countries who usually whine about how unsafe or bad EU or US are are behind. "Netflix’s first Indian original series, Sacred Games, faced a court challenge last year over “offensive scenes” and derogatory remarks about a former Indian prime minister, but the case was later dismissed. There was also a police complaint filed last month by an Indian politician who accused some Netflix shows of “defaming Hindus”." https://www.dawn.com/news/1511520/india-considers-censoring-netflix-amazon
India is a complicated country, almost everything leads to some people getting mad.
No one really cares about India
Except for 1.3 Billion Indians!
Do they _really_ care though?
To be fair, its a democracy. Anyone has the right to go to court against something they find offensive. And its an important right. You could argue on the sensitivity or politicization of the same. But its better than not having the legal right of not complaining. And I mean, all religions at some point have complianed against some movie / show / drama. So not necessarily a hindu problem.
A foundation for a democracy is the ability to say whatever you want without punishment from the state. Doing so with a movie isn't possible in India currently so...
Whatever you want without being offensive, spreading hatred, causing panic etx. Freedom of speech has some caveats, but someone who reads Dawn wont know that. And the right to register a coplaint is for everyone Including Hindus Muslims Christians, Parsis. so ..
Haha the news source is dawn.com Not exactly trustworthy is it!!
LMAO. I didn’t see the news source. OP is probably from Pak, venting. Go ahead OP. Purge your anger!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_India#Television "The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the regulatory film body of India, regularly orders directors to remove anything it deems offensive, including sex, nudity, violence or subjects considered politically subversive.[16] According to the Supreme Court of India:[17] “ Film censorship becomes necessary because a film motivates thought and action and assures a high degree of attention and retention as compared to the printed word. The combination of act and speech, sight and sound in semi darkness of the theatre with elimination of all distracting ideas will have a strong impact on the minds of the viewers and can affect emotions. Therefore, it has as much potential for evil as it has for good and has an equal potential to instill or cultivate violent or bad behaviour. It cannot be equated with other modes of communication. Censorship by prior restraint is, therefore, not only desirable but also necessary " well well cope more
Dawn.com 😂😂😂
OP do you guys even have Netflix in Pak? Do they stream shows in Mandarin there? 🤣
Thanks for showing my point about being sensitive about the topic. I just googled "india censorship" and took a recent article
Censorship bar should be consistent for all media. Web streaming services are not exempt.
Thank you. /thread
The bar should not exist... Why do you hate free speech like the Chinese?
Where do you get an idea that they are trying to be a modern country as defined by Western standards? India has chosen an almost dictatorial right wing leader who has systematically almost destroyed all pillars of democracy . Journalism is a joke barring last few voices, judges form the highest court in india came out and said save democracy, Indians rewarded the leader with another big mandate. India has chosen a different path. Best case it will be like China in 50 years , Huge inequality but great economic progress. Also Likely case it will be a Pakistan with its own religion based terror orgs, roots of which have already been sown. The direction change is so forceful that it may take few generations to turn around if indians want it to . At the moment Indians have given a thumping yes to this direction. Western world will just have to deal with it
Ok.
We get that you hate the current government. We get that not seeing the Gandhis looting makes you sad, but how is this anything to do with TV censorship? Anurag Kashyap’s movies were banned in the congress era Black Friday (offensive to Muslims) Gulaal, Paanch etx all through the 90s and 2000s. So take a chill. Lets not turn this into a political pissing match. Your comment is irrelevant
