Moving to San Francisco at Dropbox! What are things I should be wary of in bay area and how to make the transition smooth? TC: 135
Here is my advice. Go back.
Too late! So any other advice?
Be ready to look hip and cool. Be ready to spend alot. Be ready to study your ass off and keep yourself uptodate with latest technologies. Leetcoding.
With TC of $135K it will be tough to live in the Bay. Get ready to sacrifice a lot.
Willing to Initially! Any other advice?
Be prepared for very different weather than you’re used to. We don’t have as much of a winter here, but the SF microclimate makes it feel like winter all summer long. Thunder storms are so rare here that you’ll know about the lightning from your Facebook friends/the news before you will actually see it. Additionally, be advised that when making plans, “yes” means “maybe” and “maybe” means “no” (it took me several years to get this one). However, ignore the trolls: I made the move almost 10 years ago and despite the usual SF quirks, I have no regrets. Some of the best food in the world, cool people, and beautiful scenery. Good luck with the move!
This place sucks dick, and there’s plenty to go around
Why do you call it SFC?
Exactly. The first time I got off the plane and got on a Uber here, and I said “San Francisco... city”, and the driver gave me a good lecture.
Because KFC is taken
Prepare to have all three meals in the office. Tuck shop is so good, and so all outside restaurants feel dumb.
Haha, that is one thing I am pretty excited about
What’s SFC?
Getting laid will be much harder
East Coast wasn't easy either!
Talk about never then
