Hi everybody, I interviewed and received an offer for a new grad (undergrad) swe position at Microsoft back in March this year, but turned it down for a startup. Given the uncertainty with such startup, I'm wondering if it is still possible to re-accept my msft offer. I've heard google has a 1 year offer grace period but I haven't heard something similar for msft. YOE: 0 TC: 150k
That was probably not a wise choice. It can't hurt to reach out to the recruiter you worked with but go in with low expectations
Was your Microsoft new grad TC lower than 150? Also I don't think we have a 1 year period, but it doesn't hurt to try.
It was higher, but not enough for me to have TC influence my decision. Do Principal SWE Managers have any sway in this? I primarily interacted with such rather than my recruiter in terms of getting to know MSFT and what I would have been working on if I joined. Wondering if it makes sense to email him directly.
I would give emailing the principal a shot. Principal managers tend to have the say in hiring, so if you can reach out to the HM that might work. Although we are in a hiring freeze for many teams
Just out of curiosity why did you choose the startup? For entry level Microsoft seems a much better choice regarding your resume and job stability.
Startup is in an interesting field and seemed more exciting. I enjoy it here and the expectations I had coming in have been accurate. This is more a decision for the next year or so, I did not factor macroeconomic conditions into my decision.
What were your expectations and what do you enjoy about it?
What location is Microsoft in vs the startup
Redmond, one of Bay or SF
Unlikely, when you declined the offer, the headcount went to someone else. Given how tight the budgeta are right now, you would have to get incredibly lucky and the HM would have another unassigned position. Unlike Google or Meta, our hiring is team based, not company based. This is why you need to do full loop during internal transfer and why we can't hold the offer opened for a year.
Always wondered why internal mobility is so bad lol. Heard there is some local optimization ie same vp/director level
I did the same thing. They said no
You should ask your recruiter. Even the 1 year grace period in google is on the contingency of having open head counts.
