Im expecting an offer from MSFT Redmond for a role I recently interviewed with. From what i have heard from the hiring manager during interviews, they have a small presence in India but majority of the org and team is located in Redmond and he has expressed a strong preference for people who are able to hybrid into the office over someone fully remote. On the other hand I interviewed with a different org about 3 months ago, for a slightly different kind of role. I did not get an offer, they went with someone else but recruiter said i had a strong positive feedback and would consider me for any similar openings potentially without having to interview again, based on existing positive feedback. This org has a very strong presence in India. A couple days ago, a bunch of positions identical to what i had interviewed for back in December have opened up in India. Im pretty sure i have high chances with the positions. Coming to my dilemma now, due to family reasons, im planning on relocating to India, ideally in the next 3-4 months. Im in 2 minds about which route to pursue. If i take the Redmond offer and ask for internal transfer, i dont know how open my manager would be to the idea, especially this soon. If i were to pursue the other opportunity from previous feedback, ill be onboarded for the india role at significantly lower compensation comparatively (sign on and stock) I realize i need to pick one of either money or flexibility and make a decision. But anybody who had to make a similar decision? Any thoughts or extra factors i should consider? #msft #azure #india #indiasalary
You won’t be able to pull off being a U.S. employee that’s fully remote in India for long anyway, so might as well save yourself the trouble and get hired directly in India.
With the upcoming election, be wary of the instability that is potentially coming for h1bs. The job in India is guaranteed to be around this time next year.
