I have about 210k in Msft stock which is 1/3rd of my networth. With the recent Msft stock boom due to chatgpt hype, Msft stock is likely overvalued. Question :- Should I sell some of my Msft stock and diversify in VT sax and co ? Or should I keep HOLD for the next 5-10 years? I have confidence in Msft cause it's super diversified, however it feels overvalued as of now. I don't foresee myself needing a lot of money in the near future & hence am totally open to HODL. #tech #microsoft #personalfinance #stock
One could argue you should never have 1/3 of your net worth in one company’s stock, but as far as stocks go, I think MSFT is a pretty good one. I happen to believe there will be an AI boom that is bigger than any of the previous tech booms, and I think MSFT should participate in this especially because MSFT has good AI hosting and because in tech booms, people buy more PCs. If you don’t think there will be an AI boom, then I could see why you might feel there is a likelier downside for MSFT.
Keep checking investor fillings. If Satya sells you also sell. CEO knows best.
That’s a good first sign. Our exec had sold 16m (we a much smaller company) worth of shares in spam of 4-6 months and we felt the drop.
Where to check?
I did the same mistake which is not to sell. Always diversify, don’t kee everything under same bucket
Always diversify. Regardless of how good you think an investment is. It's the risk that's the problem
Keep as little of your own company stock as possible. You’ll be less upset when it tanks.
I had around 500k nvidia stocks, sold 300k to close home loan. I still have 200k but now I don’t fret over it. (Otherwise I used to check them daily) .
How do you feel about selling now
Lol, yeah i feel bad, but if I could have predicted stock movements, I wouldn’t be sitting on blind asking people their tc 😉
I do agree with others that you should diversify. Having said that, I don't think MSFT is overinflated because of Open AI. Stock price was higher than this in end of 2021.
If you’re going to hold a big chunk in a single stock, Microsoft is the safest bet. They have an excellent business - super diversified, and very shareholder friendly.
It’s not always wise to diversify. It depends on whether you’re playing not to lose or playing to win. If you are older you should be more conservative, but if you are young you can play the long game more easily, depending on your temperament. Remember that “diversify” is extremely commonplace advice, and doing what everyone else is doing is hardly the recipe for outstanding success.

Please sell some of your stocks and diversify or just put the cash in savings account. Learned it hard way. I have a huge chunk if PYPL (got RSU at my previous job), really regret not selling PYPL when it touched 300. Now they are worth pennies.
Same, went all in when I was at my previous employer, saw impressive gain until the stock went down to trash.
I can understand your situation
