I want to prep for hft software engineering interviews. Does the interview need to be taken in c++? Should I do all my interview prep in c++? I know c++ - currently write it at work, but my primary language is usually Golang @citadel @optiver
For Jane street it will be ocaml. If the job says so
That is untrue. Jane street explicitly mention ocaml is not a prerequisite. In fact I’ve heard of people trying to use ocaml and failing miserable. If I’m not wrong, you can use the language of your choice. If you choose to use Ocaml, you’d better be an expert.
Depends on the role and the candidate. Eg, for new grads, any language is fine. For experienced hires, if you're interviewing for swe, yeah, you gotta know C++. I'm not waiting around for you to learn C++ and then spend the next year writing shitty C++ code. For a QR role, it varies a lot more -- sometimes you need C++, sometimes python, and sometimes just a strong math/stats background.

So how is c++ knowledge evaluated?
no unless the position explicitly says C++ dev or something. Source: I interviewed with quite many quant firms this year
For python developer role? Or quant Research role?
What was your experience? Any offers?
