My Indian friends, why some of you want to go back to India?

This is a genuine question, so dont flag this post please 🙏. But I see some Indian folks on Blind suggesting that they want to go back to India (not for retire). Assuming you are either in US or Canada, what makes you wan to go back to India? Better lifestyle? Food? More things to do? Im really curious, because I dont want to go back to Japan to do the same work when I make 4-5x more here. Maybe for retire or just to visit family and friends. tc 180

Family and friends. Cheap labor

Cisco ⏰=O(n!) OP Mar 18

Cheap labor? Do you own a business in India?

Meta iRev Mar 18

They mean house servants

Microsoft jshejdj Mar 18

Parents, social life, friends, household help, better kids education are some of the reasons for me.

Microsoft peenuts1 Mar 18

Kids education is better in India?

Amazon dSaA44 Mar 18

I have friends making close $110k per year in Bangalore. If you adjust that for PPP, I guess it's more than $300k. And you have family 🤷🏻‍♂️

Half of it gonna go to buy water. Kiddin but no amount of TC for an avg 9-5 person like most of us here would solve some of these daily pestering problems one may face.

No guns in schools.

Meta lebronsdad Mar 20

….its not a common thing. Idk why people think this is somehow the norm. It’s not. There are always bad apples but most gun violence is from criminals on the streets lol..

I moved back to India after being in US for almost 10 years. It's my own opinion and different people want to live their lives differently so nothing is wrong or right here. You live where you see yourself being the most comfortable etc For me, 1st: It's the startup that I am working on, after working on h1b for years, I decided that I am done with moonlighting and want to focus on my startup as I am seeing some traction there. 2nd: More time here as it's very cheap to get a househelp, so I don't have to worry about what to cook and when to clean every so often 3rd: Close to my friends and family. After pandemic, I felt the need to be closer to my family. ( Living in Seattle might have also played a part here, place was depressing for me). 4. Sense of peace: well it might not be the case for you as you're from Japan, but for me working on h1b took it's toll, as I work full time and then was focusing on my startup free time, I got burnt out but had no option of just quitting for couple of months and relax. I don't have tonworry about that here. And some more Some cons of living in India, it's not all of bed of roses here though 1. Micro management is considered normal here, no idea of work life balance, your manager will call you on your personal phone whenever s/he feels like it. 2. Traffic, it's not bad but I am still getting used to not caring about traffic regulations. Lol

thanks for the balanced perspective One of the cons you mentioned is the biggest reason I am avoiding moving back > Micro management is considered normal here

To live a life of chaos and random bullshit while I crib about it with my friends and family after sitting in an SUV for 3 hours in Bangalore traffic. Atleast the food is good - the dust and smoke give it an exquisite BBQ like flavor. And then 3 hours of drive back to my 18th floor apartment where I have to buy cans of water to wipe my butt. Or straight to the mall toilet.

If you need to work full time office job and you dont have family pressure- just stay back. Not worth that fkin pain

Microsoft SLYSTL Mar 18

yea Cisco. I have been in the US for more than 20 years. I have my US citizenship also. If I were to ever go back to India, it would be to retire only. Never to work in that environment again.

Meta richаrdhea Mar 18

Lack of flexibility and adaptability.

Axon ashjdsjhd Mar 18

Family I can understand. Do Indian people not make friends in US? Also how close are you guys to your Indian friends whom you wouldn’t have talked in a long while?

Amazon graziekome Mar 18

Most Indians don’t socialize outside of their own ethnicity

Cisco fjsksk34 Mar 18

Not true. Friends != family members

They hate having a high paying job in a safe area over here. They miss being unable to taste the base ingredients in every single dish without it being completely covered by spices. They also can't mix with the diversity in America so they don't have a new community to meld in to leaving them feeling like constant outsiders

SAP babayaga44 Mar 18

lol don't teach diversity to Indians.. The language, food Weather, skin tone, culture, and behaviour changes every 200km in India.. Indians are very social creatures. The ones you see who just mingle with their own are in the minority but sadly they made it to the USA due to networking. So they tend to stick to their own groups. But there are plenty of other Indians who live and socialise just fine with any nationality. The diversity of India is mind boggling. The world does not need to teach us diversity . We invented it.

Capital One caponeFanB Mar 18

Indian diversity != global diversity Europe is even more diverse in that case
