#FAANGMULLA folks - what do you think about my plan? Seeking constructive suggestions! Thanks :) Goal - Get a job as a software engineer (ideally backend) in 3 months (7*90 = 630 Hrs). I am deliberately keeping an aggressive timeline. Targeting junior positions for now (0-2 years work-ex). FAANG would be ideal, although any smaller firm would also work just fine. I divided the plan into 3 phases - Projects, Interview Prep, and Resume Prep 1. Projects (create an app - 1 for each stack) [Spend 3 hrs/day] - MEAN Stack - MERN stack - Python-Django-Flask Stack 2. Interview Prep [Spend 3hrs/day] - get expertise in a language (python/Java) - practice leetcode (python + SQL) - study data structures and algo - prepare stories for behavioral - start interviewing in parallel 3. Resume Prep and Job Applications [Spend 1hr/day] - Prepare Resume with relevant projects My prior work-ex: - bachelor's in ECE engineering - total of 8 years of work-ex (including 3 in US) - Masters degree in MIS - experience in data analysis (SQL), app development (c#, asp.net), Dashboarding(Tableau) #tech #swe #faang #faangmulla
Python + LC grind is better than three full stack projects tbh. Just do one good one
Thanks, do you think I should I prepare LC Hard or just medium and easy would do? Also, do I have the luxury of choosing if I want to go into front end, back end or full stack at this point? I consider myself a fresher and don't mind starting from scratch. I ideally want to move back end / api development. How should I approach it then? Are backend jobs advertised as such?
Yeah you can kind of pick after you do your first project and when you applying for jobs. If you are interested in Backend, API development by itself is extremely narrow so I'd learn Infrastructure, DB, some devops just to get a well rounded idea about what you like! Start with LC Easy - > Medium and solve the popular Hards, not all of them.
Forget the projects, focus on leetcode, and ask for referrals on here
Thanks, but if I don't do projects, what will I write in my resume? I don't have experience working as swe.. Most of my experience is in VBA, sql, asp.net, ETL. Also, if I am targeting junior positions, should I prepare LC Hard or just medium and easy would do? Also what about system design, should I prepare for that?
looks good to me, please apply to netflix as well, we’re always looking for motivated folks like you 😊
Thanks Schumaker!! Can I DM you for referral once I am ready in a month or so?
OP hows it going so far. Any tips?

Python is a joke language
That's not very helpful now is it
Ignore this guy. Scripting languages are objectively better for interviewing. I’ve seen data that python usage resulted in my offers than Java or C. I don’t even like Python. It’s fine for interviewing though
