Microsoft or Ebay?

Microsoft level - L61 (software engineer 2) base 138k signon 15k Rsu 90k over 4 years Ebay level - SE 3 (senior software engineer) base 150k signon 40k rsu 120k over 4 years Both in Seattle I want to pick ebay, but given the recent layoffs, I am not sure if its a best choice for me specially when I am on visa here. These are the final numbers for both the companies. Any suggestions or advice?? #offer #career #tech #ebay #microsoft current tc 150k yoe 4 UPDATE : Thanks everyone for your inputs. eBay Also, make a poll

Done! Thanks

Salesforce awwe Apr 18, 2020

No way! They had like 4-5 layoffs in the last 1.5 years. I will never recommend eBay. Microsoft is a no-brainer even with the low TC. You're joining a Tier1 company. I see Microsoft and apple to be similar league.

I voted Microsoft. Ebay is a dying website

L61 isn't senior at MS. It's SDE 2

Microsoft 💹stonks Apr 16, 2020

L61 is actually junior SDE2.

Microsoft dreamer6 Apr 16, 2020

What should be L64 be then? Senior senior software engineer? Its SDE 2. Junior isn't part of official title.

IBM go_covid🦠🔫 Apr 16, 2020

If it is an SDE role: L61 is a SDE-II role. Sr. SDE start at L63/L64. You may want to check with recruiter/HM. Also, I would choose MS betwn the two.

Amazon qTXx48 Apr 16, 2020

You can negotiate the L61 offer higher.

Cornerstone bluhh OP Apr 16, 2020

As I said, these are the final offers :)

Amazon qTXx48 Apr 16, 2020

The recruiters will always say that. I've seen plenty L61 offers higher. I'm guessing you already told them the ebay numbers? If that's really the final offer then tell you'll walk and see how they respond

eBay is doing really well now, in these conditions

Akamai Technologies __init__() Apr 18, 2020

How and in what?

LinkedIn 0.5xEng Apr 18, 2020

I agree. I've not used eBay in ages but since amazon and other retailers are out of stock or prioritizing essential items, eBay is my alternate.

Rakuten tooQ10 Apr 16, 2020

Microsoft will still be producing stuff a decade from now. eBay, with its relentless squeezing of small-time sellers and general bad treatment of its users, might well die before that.

eBay PWbn34 Apr 18, 2020

You don't know that. I know someone who worked in MSFT when balmer was CEO and people thought it's a sinking ship. Satya came and he turned the ship arround. Leadership matters and sometimes it just takes 1-2 initiatives to unblock new revenue streams for companies. eBay ain't going away in next 20 years. Worst case it will.be acquired by someone

eBay eboy20 Jun 12, 2020

Wake up. No one is going to buy eBay.

Dematic mikelc Apr 16, 2020

Microsoft stock is valuable 10 years from now, can you say the same about eBay?

Hubspot icedout Apr 16, 2020

Can always sell eBay stock and buy more MS than what MS offers

Amazon soTw67 Apr 18, 2020

Lol👆 selling and buying doesn’t work. You are not a stock broker. Go with MS. Their stock vesting policy is waay better. In a year you will beat your eBay pay. Sites like eBay don’t stand a chance in long term. Look at Groupon...

Microsoft lolololll Apr 16, 2020

That's not even comparable, take Ebay for sure. Not sure why Microsoft lowballed that much. Also why didnt you apply for senior role at MS instead of SWE 2?

Microsoft lolololll Apr 16, 2020

Keep in mind promotions take forever here, especially 62 to 63 and 64 to 65

Amazon geeeeer Apr 22, 2020

I heard 62->63 is not that hard nowadays

eBay dafgbbnnkk Apr 16, 2020

Go for ebay if these are only 2 options. You can always change if you don't like eBay. eBay will grow this year at least. TC at eBay 235K vs 180K at msft. Go to msft if they can at least match TC.

eBay jamie-mart Apr 16, 2020

Forget the TC, 61 vs T24, MS is low balling you even on the level!

IBM poweranger Apr 16, 2020

How's TC at eBay 235k ? @ebay
