Hi all, I'm a new grad in Taiwan. These are some SWE offers I'm considering. Any feedback or thought is well appreciated! My priorities will be: 1. Career growth, future opportunities 2. Tech fields that I'm interested in, backend and distributed systems 3. Maximize technical knowledge 4. Compensation is not the most important factor for me xd 5. WLB is not a problem for me I guess, I'm kinda workaholic # Google (Taiwan) Pros: 1. Google dream company! 2. I could stay in my home country Cons: 1. There're only hardware-related teams in Google TW, which I kinda dislike. Teams that I had fit-talk with: Android BSP, Pixel Camera, Mobile wireless... 2. Competing with top engineers in the field that I don't like, my performance review might be in danger 3. Cases of transferring team from a hardware-related team in Google TW to a backend team outside of Taiwan are super rare # AWS (Dublin) Pros: 1. CloudWatch team is the product and the field that I like 2. It's experienced hire, not student program. This means faster promotion to L5(? 3. Leaving TW and get to Europe first, there will be more backend opportunities for me in the future 4. Base: 83K, year 1 bonus: 17K, year 2 bonus: 13k, RSU: 20 / 4 years. It's higher than all Amazon NG offer on levels.fyi Cons: 1. People are saying Amazon is kinda like the lower tier in big tech 2. HR from other companies told me that I should keep eye on the L4 to L5 process in Amazon 3. Pls don't pip me # Bloomberg (London) Pros: 1. UK is the most favored location for me and the office looks so nice lul 2. Seems like Bloomberg > Amazon from most of the polls I have seen 3. great WLB Cons: 1. Slower promotion compared to other big tech? 2. Someone told me that the tech stack is pretty old 3. Seems like there's no new product aside from the terminal # Circle (US) Pros: 1. pre-IPO fintech startup is the trend now 2. Full remote in Taiwan, TC is similar to Google TW 3. Fastly-growing product and company, might be able to earn some more through IPO? 4. HR told me that I could work in the US after 1 year Cons: 1. Idk crypto/blockchain at all lul 2. Smaller brand name 3. Higher risk compared to big tech # Tiktok (Singapore) Pros: 1. E-Commerce data platform team, I have experience in it and also highly-interested 2. Team lead seems to be a really nice guy Cons: 1. Lower TC, does not allow to compete with offers outside of Singapore 2. Questionable WLB # The Trade Desk (London) Pros: 1. Highest TC out of all offers, 137K EUR 2. HR said that the promotion would be within one year 3. Super passionate recruitment. I told him that I might join Amazon, he first added sign-on then scheduled a call with an ex-Amazon engineer to let me know why he left Cons: 1. Smaller brand name 2. I almost know nothing about the product
Are you really new grad? or do you have some months of experience?
How did you end up getting 83k base for Amazon, Dublin. I interviewed with them for new grad and got 70k base. 🤔 Did you negotiate w them?
Yeh, 0 YOE. An undergrad who will be graduating in June. However, I do have internships in Microsoft, Intel, Qualcomm, and the current unicorn startup company. Not sure whether that counts as experience 😅
…if you don care about moola with 0yoe…just try the team you like the most.
That make sense... But I still care about growth, opportunities, knowledge, other things haha
Damn that Amazon offer is great, if u join Bloomberg let me know I will be joining it soon
Can I DM you thanks
Survey results are exactly in the same order that you listed the choices. Coincidence or something else 😀
I see Google is leading, any thought on why I should join even if I don't like the teams and the chance of transferring to a backend team is super low?
Brand name , mostly
All offers are good , hence best brand in winning according to my understanding
The Trade Desk. It’s a very underrated company and they pay people well, you can expect high TC in your career there and enjoy London. Best choice imo.
Google & transfer to other office after a year ? Or you could ask your recruiter to match you with teams in other locations
Transferring from hardware-related team in Taiwan to a backend team outside of Taiwan is super hard. My friends in there told me that there are lots of people trying to do it but haven't heard anyone succeed. I asked the recruiter to help me match the backend teams in Europe. He told me that it might be workable but it's not guarantee. Besides, 2022 NG in Europe is already full 😢
My google recruiter told me she would match only for taiwan teams then i failed hc so just be aware they might to be able to do it. I have seen someone who was able to get Google London using his Amazon Dublin offer
Don’t join TikTok Singapore
Hi, can you elaborate more on this? Is it because of poor wlb there? I keep receiving the interview invitations from TikTok HR m so I wanna know how the culture there before considering it.
You received because of very high churn rates (up to 30%+) in some teams and many people leave before 6 months. Very poor management (offending people in some cases), toxic environment, WLB depends on team but generally poor, low pay for non-tech or non-ex-FAANG, no annual or COL adjustments, constant changes of direction(every 2-4 months ), unclear expectations for annual perf ratings or the R&R. There are teams created that don’t know what they are supposed to do at all. Due to poor pay and churn there are very low quality people that joined who are straight up toxic and insane and it’s still tolerated. Standards in some teams are very low.

Provide TC breakdown for all.
Hey, thanks for commenting! The reason that I didn't provide the TC breakdown for all is that I didn't care about it that much 😅, and I don't want it to affect the result. Only some are listed because I think those are pretty special, the others are just average offers xd My main focus will be on career growth and future opportunities in my early career!
