I have been working at fidelity since graduating from college and have worked here for exactly a year. I am expecting to get promoted to SDE 2 by end of summer. However, I applied to NSA about 5months ago and just received a conditional offer to join the NSA as a swe. My current tc at fidelity is 100k and is expecting to go up to 110k with promotion. I think NSA tc will be 85k. Should I stay or quit? I have also interned at faang if it matters.
Take a pay cut for a move to a job that does you no favors in terms of career growth or stay at your big fintech company expecting a promotion? What’s your location?
Most likely moving to dmv with nsa
Where are you now?
Might as well just give you all my passwords if you work at the nsa — you’re going to be doing the most evil shit on earth
Dude, if you have to ask here, then forget abt joining.
You’re looking at at least another year before the security stuff gets done and you maybe get a final offer if you have a remotely complicated background. So you can’t start working until that anyway and you’ll likely be promoted long before you get a final offer. Also consider the requirements of holding such a clearance, e.g., foreign travel reporting, financial disclosures, the paperwork, etc. What grade/step? If you only have a BS with some experience it’ll be GS9, I’m guessing? Living on 85k in Maryland isn’t great. Personally I’d stay at fidelity.
Hey I used to work at Sandia!
If it’s not GG12 then I wouldn’t
Depends on the position.

@OP wants to be a spy not an astronaut (NSA vs. NASA).
