verbal IC3 SWE comp for a backend (distributed systems) role (remote in HCOL): - base: $165,000 - RSUs: 160k/4 years TC: ~205k Seriously? I’m negotiating right now, but this is insanely lower than expectations. Variance seems so wide at NVIDIA. I’m making ~280 in my current role with 4YOE. I’d leave for 250 - should I straight up tell my recruiter that? The role is spot-on with the type of work I want to do, but that’s a massive pay cut for a company whose stock has what, 5x-ed in the past year? NVIDIA folks - any advice around negotiating? Should have competing offers around what I make now, but recruiter said they don’t care. What do I say to make this work? #nvidia

Pointless to leave for such a drastic pay drop unless you really hate your current role, tell the recruiter what you want and be ready to walk away if they can’t give it to you
Only reason Nvidia TC’s are high is because of stock growth. Without that, pay here isn’t that great in comparison to other big tech companies
205k for IC3 is an absolute joke though, even for NVIDIA. I’m clearly being lowballed - what do you think a reasonable counter would be?
RSU and base look about what is expected for an average IC3 offer in a non AI related SW role, maybe a little low. Might be able to push another 10-20k for both. Is there a sign on bonus as well? Could probably get to 250-260k if sign on is included in the calculation
You are screwed if stocks dip next year
Exactly.
Low ball. Stay firm to what you want, be prepared to walk.
Ask for 180k base 200k 40k sign on
We have too many great candidates wanting to join NVIDIA now. So negotiating won’t help. If you’re not satisfied with the offer just pick some other company. Possible reason for lowball might be that your interviews performance might be satisfactory but not great enough to negotiate with you.
“Negotiating won’t help” - so I should get on two knees just because it’s NVIDIA? Get out of here. This is a pitiful offer for a senior-level role where they claim 5-8 YOE is typical. I’m not desperate to leave - if someone else is, they can have this offer lmao.
lol. Read my full reply. I said go to some other company that won’t lowball you.
Just tell the recruiter what you want. If they want you they will surely match it
Thanks for the advice! Curious why you say that - I’d think because NVIDIA is so hot, they can be picky with offers. But you’d surely know better than me

Why doesn't OpenAI offshore and reduce expense by 80%
205 in hcol?negotiate to 300 or let it go
300 for IC3 ain’t gonna happen though, unless someone at NVIDIA disagrees
