https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/open-letter-new-york-state-budget-director-robert-mujica-regarding-amazon "Furthermore, opposing Amazon was not even good politics, as the politicians have learned since Amazon pulled out. They are like the dog that caught the car. They are now desperately and incredibly trying to explain their actions. They cannot." Sums it up pretty well. Who's going to throw mud on AOC's face? "Incredibly, I have heard city and state elected officials who were opponents of the project claim that Amazon was getting $3 billion in government subsidies that could have been better spent on housing or transportation. This is either a blatant untruth or fundamental ignorance of basic math by a group of elected officials. The city and state 'gave' Amazon nothing. Amazon was to build their headquarters with union jobs and pay the city and state $27 billion in revenues. The city, through existing as-of-right tax credits, and the state through Excelsior Tax credits - a program approved by the same legislators railing against it - would provide up to $3 billion in tax relief, IF Amazon created the 25,000-40,000 jobs and thus generated $27 billion in revenue. You don't need to be the State's Budget Director to know that a nine to one return on your investment is a winner. "Make no mistake, at the end of the day we lost $27 billion, 25,000-40,000 jobs and a blow to our reputation of being 'open for business.' The union that opposed the project gained nothing and cost other union members 11,000 good, high-paying jobs. The local politicians that catered to the hyper-political opposition hurt their own government colleagues and the economic interest of every constituent in their district. The true local residents who actually supported the project and its benefits for their community are badly hurt. Nothing was gained and much was lost. This should never happen again." "The seventy percent of New Yorkers who supported Amazon and now vent their anger also bear responsibility and must learn that the silent majority should not be silent because they can lose to the vocalminority and self-interested politicians." vocalminority == SJW scums and leftists Again, who's going to throw mud on AOC's face?
Trying to negotiate to get a better deal from amazon, is ok. But blindly opposing amazon coz it will displace ppl is wrong. AOC is like democrats' trump.
Theres so many beautiful towns in Midwest, with wonderful kind people. Let them profit bigly. No need to have office in cold snowy New York.
Or NYC could have followed Austins approach and offered no subsidies and rather offer Amazon a seat at the table for the city to help work on how to best shape the city and infrastructure in exchange for their presence there. That would have been the right thing to do. No corporate welfare. No big nanny state excuses. Offer Amazon the chance to be a direct corporate citizen to better shape the city. But 😂...this is Amazon we’re talking about. Like they give a shit about any of that. I simply don’t care about the excuses and howling. It’s not going to amount to a hill of beans where Amazon goes as long as it’s in the states. The net economic activity is the same for the nation. Let them pick a city based on merit or fuck off rather then cities tipping over themselves to offer sweetheart deals that only Amazon gets and other businesses in the city doesn’t.
Actually Austin and Dallas made it to final round of discussions. They almost picked it. "CNBC's Brian Sullivan earlier reported Amazon could split the proposed workforce and investments between Austin and Northern Virginia." https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/05/amazon-will-reportedly-create-two-new-headquarters-instead-of-one.html
