Sup my fellow blinders. What’s the best city to live in for a young professional? I just graduated and I’m working in FAANG, turning 25 this week. Here are some things I care about for the next 5 years. • Networking • Night life (clubs, parties, etc.) • Dating (women in particular) • Career advancement Dating and night life go hand and hand for me, I’d like to do some exploring before I hit my early 30s. Career advancement/Networking is important as well but I’m already in FAANG and plan to job hop for the the first 5 years as I chase TC/experiences. Which city would you recommend? Is the dating scene in SF enough? Are there enough job opportunities in NY? If you voted other please comment the city and why! TC 185k #nyc #sanfrancisco #tech #culture #dating #network #career
Is SF worth it for AI careers?
You tell me boss man
Isnt SF like 90% guys? 5% lgbt, 5% women? Im in NYC, women is > 50%
SF if you like drugs and homeless people
The Bay Area is a sausage fest
😂😂😂
if youre prioritizing dating/night life, then NYC for sure!
10000% this. So many beautiful women, you won’t have enough time
Phew I may have to move
Dating is much easier for men in NYC. (You didn’t specify that you were a man, but if you are a woman dating women, this advice is reversed; go to SF.)
I see. I’m a man lol but makes sense. I’m worried about missing out on networking in my early career if I go to NYC, any thoughts on that?
If it’s your dream to be the founder specifically of a tech company, and you’re willing to sacrifice a more lively social life for it, then yeah move to SF. (Or if, like me, you prefer kayaking with seals and regular hikes on cliffs overlooking the ocean to a wild night life, then move to SF.) But actually I think networking is broadly better in NYC, where I lived for two years in my 20s. You’ll still meet tech people, startup founders, investors, … but also finance and advertising professionals, actors, models, writers, consultants, lawyers,… the industry diversity is so much greater in NYC.
I’ve lived in both, I would live in NYC until your late twenties. SF doesn’t even come close to the night life that NYC has. However, salaries tend to be lower in NYC and people are less interested in networking and talking about work. Dating is great in NYC but don’t expect a relationship.
Don’t think you can beat NY for night life. Networking is probably better in SF unless you’re into finance. Career advancement in tech is fastest by moving jobs, so I’d say networking goes hand in hand with advancement. From what I’m reading NY seems like the better fit
