Need some advice. We have a recent hire who came in and originally I was happy to have someone new joining my team to help out. It seemed like a good idea because my Head Sr wanted to partner with a local community college and just bring in more diversity. As the weeks have gone on, me and my other coworkers realized his work ethic, knowledge and experience do not reflect what was said on the resume. We expected to allocate time to do training but we’re realizing the lift in his training is a lot more extensive. He said he was a general manager at his last job but he doesn’t have basic skills you would think a previous manager would have. Can’t form an email, no phone etiquette, falling asleep during Zoom meetings (in front of managers and directors!), doesn’t notice/read emails or pings, zero time management and the list just goes on. The role is within accounting and we expected to run through some accounting topics seeing that he’s an “upcoming college grad”. However, my coworkers and myself as spending too much time just trying to show him how to do basics like emails and calendar organization. Not to mention when we bring up accounting topics, he just blank stares at us. He doesn’t ask follow up question and is just not a self starter. Me and my coworkers looked up his resume details online and we found out all of it is either a lie or an embellishment. We brought this up to our Head Senior and the response was that “we need to help him get to our level and have some empathy for him because he doesn’t realize the opportunity he’s been given yet.” I was told by another Senior that HR was notified (because she recognizes this as a red flag) and so far nothing yet. What should I do in this situation? It’s just so frustrating seeing him across the room doing nothing while the rest of us are busting our asses everyday. Also my Head Senior pulled a major opportunity from me to pass off to the new guy because it would “provide him a great learning opportunity”. Me and my coworkers feel discouraged to work as hard now because all the projects we were excited for are getting passed off to the new guy who doesn’t even know how to manage those projects. So what should we do?
Where's TL;DR? Just fire him?
Sounds like Nepotism of some sort. I would document this info, EMAIL IT (if its not writing it never happened), and make a stink. If nothing happens so be it, just try to make the best of it. I personally would try to work somewhere else, your senior sounds like a real Android.
TLDR come on ..
How the interview went? Why he can be hired in the first place?
It would catch up to them, the projects will eventually come back to you. If any foul play is detected that person and the head are both shown door. You are in line to become the head. Goodluck.
🤣
This guy corporates!
Seems like another case of failed diversity and inclusion programs, where candidates of different backgrounds are brought in but the existing team does not know what to do with them and how to work with them and have no skills to handle different cultures and ways of working. Not saying that what you write above is not true, just providing a different perspective for you to become a better manager yourself or find a company where you are all from the same background.
Diversity never says overlook skills.
Mzn what’s your base comp?
Can he do the work? Does the lies effect his ability to perform? Maybe call him out on it but let him prove his skills.
Brown people on visas m8. We’ve no choice but to bust our asses. If at all he’s the one typing this complaint.

VWYF. Let the Head Sr handle the fallout
