Been in database development for over a decade. Manager is offering 2 tech routes and I need to choose one. Either I start learning Java/JS or learn Salesforce. Which technology has more future prospects in terms of salary/career advancement and also the ease of moving from database development to the new one. Please advise, any insight will be helpful. Thanks! #engineering #software #java #javascript #salesforce #database #developer
Salesforce development is a miserable experience
Dont go salesforce route. I did that mistake early in my career by going to a packaged tech like salesforce. Low salary for life and super hard to come out. Go open source
As someone who does salesforce development at salesforce, please don’t make this mistake unless you’re over the age of 40 and have no other option. Much like Amazon, I messed up big time and I’m still early in my career. And it’s extremely hard to move
But I will say that the Salesforce ecosystem will definitely get you a job always if you are a really good Salesforce developer. It might not fetch top bucks, but it's the No. 1 CRM in the world, and they are really, really good at selling their product to almost every company in the world. It won't go anywhere until you retire. If you just want to coast and get a decent (150K to 250K) salary, gp for it. If you want 500K range salaries in future then go open source

Would you show promo on LinkedIn and resume?
If you start doing salesforce development, you’ll be trapped with nowhere to go. It’s a deep hole that can take years to bury yourself out of. You need to be absolutely certain about it before you take that leap.
My suggestion is stick with real, popular languages to start. Salesforce development is easy and takes no more than a month to learn.
It’s not that. If you go into salesforce development, it’s hard to switch. As in, most places won’t hire you for anything other than salesforce development unless you work twice as hard to change your professional brand.
