I have a complex tax filing this year and need a good tax advisor who can help me out with F1 and H1-B visa filing of taxes for 2019 in and around Boston area. Any references are welcome.
Agree with the above commenter. I would recommend TaxAct over TurboTax as it allows you to e-file both federal and state taxes. Both applications are as simple as answering yes/no questions. They’re also free as long as you don’t have any complicated filings.
+1 to above if it helps
Its just 1 weekend of work Do it on your own
With all due respect to above comments, I have complicated filing because me and my spouse file jointly and both have had a change of visa status in 2019. Also, H&R block would probably cost me around $400. Would rather file it through a tax consultant that has more knowledge as I have seen H&R block struggle with filings for non residents.
Change of visa status from F1 to H1B would not apply to you for 2019, keeping in mind switch happens in October 2019 Your status for tax filing for 2019 would still be non resident tax aliens I.e you will use 1040NR, since for majority of the year you were on F1.
The change of status happened end of March as it was approved last year and got stamped and re-entered in April.
I can help with your tax return. We have international experts in our team. I am located in Boston. DM me. Also, there is no comparison between CPA work and H&R Block or turbotax. There are so many credits or tax savings opportunities which H&R or TurboTax software are not aware of.
What credits do you think it will apply to OP which is mostly run of the mill filing and not available with TurboTax free federal filing ?
If you have passive income then it’s becomes tricky to use TurboTax or H&R. Few examples: Inaccurate depreciation calculation Wrong Capital Gain Calculation Not reporting K-1 income correctly Child tax credit
Thanks! Good list .. I doubt anything will apply to OP though (f1>h1)
Is it not possible in TurboTax? How complex? Can’t imagine f1-h1 would be that complex unless you started a corp or companies .. I have seen folks with 400-600k TC with multiple income streams doing it on TurboTax. I am not specifically recommending TurboTax but certainly cheaper than some advisor who will charge a lot more for very little return ..
