I am 8 years experienced software developer from Mumbai, India. 60% Frontend developer, skilled in Javascript, React - Modern SPA Development - Async javascript. - Good understanding of state management. - React Hooks. - Modern Tooling - Webpack/Vite. - Common techniques like code splitting. - Bit of Typescript. - GraphQL 40% Backend Developer. - Languages: javascript, Golang (familiar, not intermediate) - 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬, 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞): Node, Express, Loopback, Gin - 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬: MySQL, MongoDB, TiDB, Aerospike, Redis - 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬: Kibana, NewRelic, Splunk - 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬: Docker - Industry Skills - RESTful API Design. - Database Design: - RDBMS - NoSQL - Document Database [MongoDB] - DynamoDB - GraphQL API Design. - Clean Architecture. - Unit Testing. I see that now in India, there a few good companies who require deep expertise with Frontend, have staff even Principal level roles, like Adobe, Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce, Walmart, Hotstar etc I see that I will be financially as well as WLB wise at peace. But the only thing that worries me taking this direction is that past 2-3 years as IC career, if I want to move out of those companies, there are very few companies who have frontend EM roles. Versus if I develop OOP skills on the backend and go to Tier 1 companies as Fullstack dev, and only focus on my backend skills post this in my life, I feel there will be continuity in my life vs with frontend specialization, at one point, I may need to pick completely different skillset [people management, org structuring etc] and get into EM roles. Firstly, is my assumption correct? if so, its pragmatic to focus on my backend skills henceforth right? or is the 'do what you love', the only good advice in tech? I don't detest backend development, its just that FE was what I wanted to do deeply, but due to poor choice of companies who never worked on platform development [or anything beyond feature development for that matter], I decided to pick backend development along the way, which I fairly enjoyed as well. Need advise on this badly because this has affected my performance, mental health for at least 2 years now, need a resolution quick so that I move in a particular direction, I am stalled, which is bad and has affected my TC as well as you can see. Any Indians Think Kashmir Should be Independent?
FE > FullStack > BE. You have 8 years of experience! You should’ve have been a Staff/Sr Staff Software Engineer by now! Start interviewing for big firms. Also I feel there isn’t much to learn after 3-4 years of good experience in FE. What do you mean by “FE was what I wanted to go deeply…”?
I mean, doing projects like 'building design systems' or improving 'Performance' of the apps. There is always a lot to learn 😊 But you say that I should continue my journey in FE? I hope you read my concerns, those are valid concerns or just my mind messing with me, because I am where I am because of how my mind has messed with me.
But thanks a lot for commenting and trying to help out 😊
