What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Note: This post is NOT about property location, specific neighborhood etc. It is a general query. My GF and I (to be married, so no troll comments) just shifted to the South Bay and are trying to buy a house somewhere around next year. We're new to all this - house buying, mortgage etc. We are NOT very inclined towards a starter house (citizens = no Visa issues = less uncertainty) and would rather buy a 1.5M-2M SFH straightaway. My questions are: 0) what's your opinion about starter house vs SFH as first house? Our idea is that we can build larger/quicker equity and plan our lives better. Arguments? 1) while we're reading/learning more, does anyone have any specific tips for us to keep in mind? 2) what are the pitfalls/loopholes we should generally consider while planning the financials for the property (location agnostic, but broadly South Bay) 3) Can you point us to a few good websites we should see (to learn more about the process/financials, and not to find available properties) 4) we want to put in let's say <10% down. Good/bad idea? And how do we convince the seller? 5) what is the maximum loan we can get (I mean if there's a limit set by law)? We BOTH have 760+ credit if that matters - targeting 800+ each by next year. Very doable. Have ~50k combined limit on our 5 credit cards (<1 strategic utilization and paid off in full every month) 6) We're both very active on the stock market. Any suggestions to extract more? Don't have any major financial liabilities. Household TC: 300k BASE (and ~700k unvested stocks total, pre tax though). No major liabilities. YOE: <1 for both (we're both 25) Non-faang. #housing
I have no advise, but I'm so happy to see that someone just starting have all their ducks in a row.
