I am entering the negotiation phase with Airbnb. During the first compensation phone call a few days ago, recruiter said that the highest G9 (senior) offers going out today are around 400k TC for Airbnb. I have a competing offer from Rippling: 260k base, 250k stock/year. My Airbnb recruiter said that Rippling is private so their offer isn’t comparable. Tips on negotiating this? Levels.fyi seems to directly contradict my recruiter’s insistence that top offer is 400k. Can I explicitly mention what I see on levels.fyi? How much can I realistically expect from Airbnb currently? TC 400 6 YOE SF Bay Area
Recruiter said to expect between 200 and 215 base, 500-550 equity / 4 yrs, 20% target bonus
No mention of sign on in the initial comp phone call but we didn’t make it very far before I mentioned the competing offer and asked how close they could get to matching. They said they’d work with the comp team but that they hadn’t seen senior SWE offers north of 400 lately
FWIW, I’m a recent hire that couldn’t get more than 400k plus a small signing bonus for G9. I had a competing 400k offer from a public company and they didn’t beat it by much. I think maybe you can only do better if you have unique domain skills perhaps? Lmk how it goes for you ultimately, I’m curious.
I saw the offers from last couple of months on levels.fyi and they seemed pretty high compared to what they quoted you, like 500K (equity + base + sign on). What team is this? From what the recruiter told you i.e. between 200 & 215 base and the equity it seems lower than yout current comp? I am also about to enter these negotiations soon.
The $500k offers on levels.fyi are probably from folks on ML or Infra. If youre a BE SWE $400 is more likely
I negotiated with an amazon recruiter once for SDE2 position and she quoted 300K TC and asked me to lookup levels.fyi for Amazon salaries as that's pretty accurate. I told her I see 400K salaries too for L5 and she was like that is definitely wrong, somebody entered wrong data points lol.
Hey op, what’s the final offer ?
levels.fyi probably has inflated numbers due to stock appreciation
