I previously interviewed with a recruiter last year, but the role wasn’t a good fit for my skill sets. The recruiter mentioned to let her know in the future of other openings I am interested in. I have an old manager that now works at Netflix in talent acquisiton who said she can refer me to jobs. - Is it better to work directly with a previous recruiter or my old manager who can refer me? Anyone know how Netflix treats referrals and if its similar to Amazon where you’re almost guaranteed a review in resume/phone interview? Thanks for your help.
Definitely parallel path that search, IMO. Do whatever gets it done
Referrals can carry a lot of weight here - probably good to talk to your old manager. They can put you in touch with the correct recruiter for the role you're interested in and provide some color on your skillset. That said, it can't hurt to keep your previous recruiter in the loop, just let them know you're talking to your old manager.
Thanks! I saw a job that perfectly aligns with my skill sets, but I won’t be avail to apply for a few months. Would you say it’s smarter to go for a role that matches my skill sets or go for a role that I have transferable skill sets in but I don’t meet all of the qualifications? I would like to grow within Netflix if possible. I was thinking about my chances at landing a job there which is why I have been leaning closer to something I’m already doing at Amazon to get my foot in the door.
Have you read the culture deck? If you don’t meet expectations you get a nice severance.

L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
Why not both. I would start with someone you already know at a more personal level I.e. your old manager
