Netflix Interview Feedback

I have interviewed with Netflix twice for L5 roles. Both times, the interview feedback was very positive, even though I did not receive an offer. The first time, the recruiter initially told me I would be receiving an offer the next day. However, they later said they hired someone internally for the role instead as at that time they were more open to someone who was already aware of Netflix's tech stack. A year later, I interviewed again. This was a shorter interview loop since I had interviewed recently. Again, I did not get the job but was told the feedback was positive. The recruiter said the other candidate would be a more dynamic addition for that specific team, but encouraged me to apply for other roles and stay in touch. I'm curious - is this type of positive feedback standard for Netflix? Or was the feedback genuine? I'd love to hear from others who have interviewed there about what their experience was like and how the feedback compared, whether you received an offer or not. Getting insight into how much of the "positive feedback" is just a general let-down approach versus authentic assessment would be helpful for if/when I should consider applying again. #tech #netflix #interview #assesment #softwaredeveloper Blind Tax YOE: 7 TC: 260k

Feedback is definitely genuine.

So should I apply to another position immediately if I find something or wait a little?

Things change. I got only positive feedback but still took 5 or 6 months to get an offer. Headcount situation changed, maybe other offers were extended and accepted, in the end the team was able to open another position for me

Do you have any insight on the interview process, OP?

Not really, because there is no standard interview process at Netflix unlike other tech companies. It’s very much based on the team. I interviewed with them last year and there was no leetcode, it was mostly system design but not a dumb system design thing like amazon/meta, I as a game developer have no idea about the crap they ask at other tech companies, but this was very specific tailored questions, relevant to my experience and what the team was looking for. And a lot of questions based on specific issues that team is working on or trying to resolve. It was exactly the same this year, no different in interview process, 1 leetcode question, which was easy, but they didnt really care about the solution, it was a question that took 15 mins to solve(may be less for others I suck a leetcode) but spent 30 mins just discussion a lot of C++ stuff based on what I did in the solution, talking about pros and cons of different things. Pretty easy if you can write code and doing well in your day to day job. Ask the hiring manager or your recruiter, they will be able to set expectations that are actually relevant for you. YMMV

Awesome, thank you so much for sharing your experience, EA. I have an interview next week, and I’ll report back on how it went. So glad it was practical. I really don’t wanna have to get another leetcode subscription.
