I am an SDE2 at AWS soon to be promoted to L6. I have recently received an offer from Netflix and they are offering me 500K. I am on a visa and I'd like to have some job security. I like working at AWS and have a good hold on things here. Wanted opinion from this community - Take it or leave it? How bad is the Netflix culture in terms of firing? Edit: Should I try and check with my manager if Amazon is willing to do the dive and save for me? I am not sure how that works. Any Amazonian knows about that? (Not trolling - I am here for genuine opinion) Current Total Comp: 250K Total YOE: 6
How is this a question
Dude take it
When I was there they weren’t too bad. No fears of ever getting fired, no long hours either. I’d take the opportunity if you like what the team is doing.
Thanks @persont. If you don't mind answering - May I know what made you leave the company?
I was there for a while and wanted to change things up. It’s an amazing place to be for a senior ic but the flatter hierarchy can make career progression a bit more difficult. I left because I wanted an increase in level and scope. I’d totally recommend it until at least you’re ready for a staff or senior staff position elsewhere.
Wtf? They are doubling your income to leave Amazon... no brainer
Only a no brainer if there are no clear red flags with team, manager, project, etc. OP is doing his due diligence in trying to make an informed decision, kudos to him
Is this a troll post lol?!
Amazon will always be there for you to come back.
Thanks. I am exploring this option as well. I heard we don't have to interview again if we come back to the company in a year. Do you know if that's true?
Within 6 months or a year but I forget.
How about quit your job and travel around the world
I have always been wary of Netflix cuz I am a bit scared of the culture. Being on a visa , it's mentally tormenting if you could be let go any moment.
Op - given that you have the talent to get into Netflix, you can easily find another job in the worst case scenario of being fired. You will have 2 months of grace period on H1 to find another job, and You can easily do it. Netflix + amzn on your resume will add weight to your resume. Congrats on doubling your TC & Go for it.
