Netflix does not hire new graduates or inexperienced engineers. I know this is good for Netflix, but from a broad perspective, it seems they are a company lack of responsibility. They don’t want to spend time or money on training newbies from colleges. If every company follows this strategy, then it will be hard for college graduates to get a job in the market.
If everyone else used the same strategy, salaries would adjust until the strategy is no longer profitable
Every company doesn’t follow this strategy, so we good?
If every company follows this strategy and pays employees huuuuuge salaries most of them will go bankrupt.😂
New grads are a net negative. They are smart
were you never a new grad?
Yep. I tricked some company into hiring me. Doesn’t mean I wasn’t a net negative
We let other companies hire and develop college graduates. Almost every company does this. We poach them once they’re done baking and don’t have to spend time and energy developing newbies. Why is this irresponsible?
Companies nowadays are hiring mostly new grads so that they obey to company’s bs business processes, use in-house developed r*tarded tools and praise monorepos without saying a word, because they never seen anything else and don’t know it could be.
monorepo 🤣 this man has seen some shit
Why would every company follow Netflix?
Netflix model doesn’t make sense for a lot of companies, I don’t see this becoming mainstream.
You have to pay top of market in order to follow Netflix's model. And most companies can't do that. Netflix tried to hire and keep only A players (that's not saying it can really do it).
Netflix is not good for noobs and not good for super senior. It is best for engineers in that 5-10yoe range but all others likely best at other fangs
No offense meant also please correct if my understanding is wrong. I feel its the same with FB too. Someone with more experience may not adjust to the hacky culture of FB.
Depends on the team, but in general Fb has plenty of L7, L8, L9 eng ic roles for extra senior people, with salary and scoop increases to match. Even the Highest Netflix eng ic roles top out in the L6-L7 range, after which you have to go mgmt or go somewhere else.
